Chapter 6 - SIX

Chapter 6 - SIX

JENNY’S POV

Nurse Aria was finally done examining my leg and I was beyond relieved when she said it wasn’t too serious and won’t take too long to heal if I didn’t put any pressure on it all. So she applied some ointment to the spot and told me I would have to use a crutch for the period the ankle would take to heal. It was for my own good so I understood and agreed without doubting her solution. All I wanted was for the ankle to get all healed up then I would find my way to wherever I was going to be headed too after sharing my thanks to alpha Dammon.

He was all nice and kind to me and I admired that he had such a kind and considerate heart when most people would never help me how he did, but everything has its limits and I knew that my stay in his palace would be limited too. He was soon going to have me leave, saying he had done his share in saving me from whoever was after me so I had to find my way on my own. He gave me a room, I was able to take my bath, and there were so many clothes that I had the liberty to make an option on what I wanted to wear but I knew this wasn’t all going to be mine forever. Marcus told me I was in good hands in my dreams but I didn’t believe that. The only good hand I had was mine because I would be the only consistent one in my life so I was going to take it upon myself to leave before Alpha Dammon would ask me to. It was the right thing to do while I would also keep my self respect.

I finally snapped out of my thoughts that were swamping the whole of my head and I headed for the window to stare outside the palace and watch everyone go about their business. So I climbed the bed since it was right beside the only window in the room and I opened the slides to let the breeze hit my face. It felt really soothing and relaxing and I didn’t want it to end… not yet.

ALPHA DAMMON’S POV

She was different, and definitely been through a lot in life too. She looked really young so I couldn’t possibly guess what she had been through or what she had experienced but judging from her body language, how she spoke and the look she had in her eyes, Jenny had definitely seen hell and she obviously didn’t trust me because I could feel that wall that she was effortlessly building around her too keep me at arms length and I couldn’t deny it, it felt new to see someone that wasn’t holding into me like a leech but instead, keeping me away from her. It was also hard to read her emotions like I easily did for other werewolves and the only time I felt something from her was when she was worried for me as I was about to go up the stairs with her in my arms.

It felt really new and refreshing to meet someone like her. Someone that was so hard to get through or read but you could tell that she was a good person, someone that the only time I could feel her emotions was when she was worried for me but she was still keeping a distance between me and her, someone who’s eyes were only filled with fear or anger. Jenny was a lot even though I just met her few hours ago and I knew it would take a long time to get to her and know anything about her so I decided to take matters into my hands and find out more about her my own way because no matter how much I felt good about her, I couldn’t just let a stranger that I knew nothing except her name about her, stay in my pack just like that. I had to know who she was and where she was coming from earlier today when she was running for her life with so much fear and panic in her eyes. I had to be sure that she wasn’t a threat to the pack.

Someone then knocked on the door to my room and I was pulled out of my many thoughts. I asked who it was and It was my private detective that I had asked for him to come see me. I let him in immediately so we could go ahead with what I wanted him to do for me and he walked into the room.

“Good day alpha Dammon. You requested my presence,” detective Ryan said to me as he bowed and then we shook hands before he took a seat on the couch beside mine and he waited for me to speak.

“I want you to find out about someone for me” I said to him and he nodded his head before he pulled a notepad out of his pocket and began to scribble on a page.

“How much do you want to find out about the person alpha?” he asked me and I bit my lower lip. I wasn’t sure if Jenny would like this if she found out I was hiring a private detective to look into her but she had to know and understand that I was doing this for the safety of my pack because I couldn’t endanger the lives of so many people if she was going to be a threat to them.

There had to be someone she was running from and I remembered her saying the person planted a tracker inside her. What if that person was going to be a threat and she was just going to lead him or her right to my pack and my innocent subjects? I couldn’t risk letting that happen.

“The only thing i know is that her name is Jenny and I found her at the roadside close to the Pistan pack. She kept on asking me to help her before she would get caught so I figured that she was running from someone but I don't know who or why or what happened to her, but find out everything about her, every single thing and report back to me. You have a week” I replied and detective Ryan was busy scribbling fast on his notepad. Once he was done, the middle aged man stood up and bowed to me again before he left so I was alone again.

About to delve into my thoughts again, analyzing Jenny over and over again to see if there was any detail I had left out, I heard a knock on the door and before I could ask who it was, the door went open and it was Rita that walked in with a sheepish smile on her face.

I just stared at her in awe, finding it hard to believe that she was actually the one before me after so many years that we hadn’t seen or heard from each other. Then she waved at me and grinned before she spoke.

“Hey Dammon, missed me?” she asked and I gasped when I realized that she was actually real and I wasn’t seeing things.

“Rita, is that you? You’re back for real?” I asked her playfully as I stood up and walked towards her and she laughed. Then I held my arms open and gestured for her to come over and hug me.

“Come on and give me a hug. You have no idea how much I have missed you'' I said to her and she squealed before she ran into my arms and I hugged her really tight as my heart swelled with joy that my sister was finally back after so long and was with me in person. At that moment, I told myself that she was never going to be facing any hardship again because I was going to be there for her in every step of the way while also supporting any new decision she was going to make so she would never have to experience what she just did. I wasn’t going to just let her vanish off the face of earth because I was going to be with her next time. In person or not.

“I was told you were sleeping when I returned to the pack” I said to her after we let go off each other and she shrugged before she went to take a seat and I did the same by sitting beside her

“Yeah, I just woke up because it was a long ride home and I really needed rest. At least I’m here now” she replied and II nodded while smiling at her.

“So I heard that you brought a really pretty lady with you on your return” Rita said to me teasingly and I smiled.

“Yeah she is pretty but I’m just helping her. She was running from something or someone and she asked me for help after standing in the way to stop us from heading to the airport” I explained and Rita nodded with a smile on her face.

“Well, I don't care if anything is going on between the both of you brother. I’m just proud of you for helping her when she really needed it but then you have to find out about her to be sure that the pack is safe with her here with us” she said to me and I nodded, glad that she thought the same thing as I did. Which meant that I was doing the right thing by looking into Jenny.

“I’m already on it and by next week, detective Ryan will be back to give me a report on what he knows about her” I replied and Rita nodded again.

She was about to speak again when there was another knock on the door again and when I let the person in, it was a maid.

She bowed to us with a smile before she went ahead to tell us that dinner was ready to be served to us in the dining room. I dismissed her after she was done speaking and she bowed again before leaving so it was just me and Rita once again.

“I’d like to meet this Jenny and introduce myself to her so I’m going to be the one to call her down for dinner” Rita said and stood up to leave but I quickly held her hand to stop her.

“I’ll call her for dinner and I’ll do the introduction. You can do yours another day” I said to her and a wide smile immediately appeared on her face as she looked down at me.

“Well someone is already falling fast… I hope she is feeling with you and good luck brother, go and get her for dinner” she teased before she walked out of the room and I rolled my eyes to myself with a smile playing on my lips too. I really missed my little sister and the happy mood that she was always in because it seemed to rub off on anyone she was around.

Seeing that I was still seated and not calling Jenny down for dinner, I got up and rushed off to have a shower first. Once I was done, I put on a simple pair of blue jean pants and a short sleeved white t-shirt then I left for her room.

I knocked on the door first and I heard her voice when she said I could come in without asking who it was. I walked into the room and she was on the bed by the window. She looked back at me as I stood close to the door and I couldn’t help but notice how different she looked in that blue dress, with her hair down too.

“You know you should be asking who is by the door before you let them in right?” I asked her and she gave me a look.

“Didn’t you say everyone in your pack is nice? I don’t think anyone would want to hurt me” she replied and I chuckled.

“Well, you should think about your privacy then” I retorted and she rolled her eyes before she got down from the bed with little struggle due to her ankle.

“So what did the nurse say?” I asked her and she shrugged while sitting at the edge of the bed.

“Well, she said it wasn’t too serious but I shouldn’t apply any pressure on the ankle until it’s healed,” she replied. “She also said I would need a crutch to avoid me using the leg” she added and I went ahead to kneel before her so she would look at me.

“Don’t worry about that because you have me to take you anywhere you want” I said, trying to make her feel better and she laughed.

“I have nowhere to go Dammon. I just got here and I know no one except you and nurse Aria” she replied and we both laughed.

“You said my name” I said to her and she gave a brief smile before she looked away.

“I guess I took your advice and quickly got used to it” she said to me and we just grinned at each other. It was still hard to read her emotions and I could see that she still had that wall around her as a defense and to also keep me at a distance from her.

“Well, I came to get you for dinner, so I’m going to carry you and you won’t have to worry about using a crutch” I said to her and she looked at me for a while as I maintained eye contact.

“Thank you alpha” she said

“It’s nothing Jenny” I replied and she shook her head.

“I really mean it. Thank you so much for saving me and giving me such treatment. I mean, I haven't looked or felt this good in years” she said and I took her hand.

“Yeah, you undeniably look so good in this dress Jenny” I said to her and I saw a flicker of an emotion in her eyes but they were quickly gone.

I wasn’t lying though. She looked really different; she looked good and beautiful.
