ALPHA DAMON'S POV
Seeing that we were staying too long in the room and Rita was probably going to be waiting for us so she could eat, I quickly rose to my feet and her eyes followed me.
“Come on let’s head downstairs for dinner, I also have someone I want you to meet” I said to Jenny as I held my hand toward her and she nodded before she placed her hand in mine.
Then I pulled her toward me and she gasped since she didn’t expect it as she came so close to me that I could see the tiny sprinkles of black in her brown irises that stared at me with shock and amusement in them.
“What are you doing?” she asked me breathlessly as she tried to hold back a laugh and I grinned before I bent to carry her in my arms while she looked at me, waiting for a reply.
“Just teasing my visitor so she would think the alpha is cool and fun to hang out with” I said to her and she laughed silently as I walked toward the door.
She helped me open it and she also closed it when I got out of the room then I began to walk down the passage while she held onto me for balance.
“So who am I meeting downstairs?” She asked me and I made a face to show I was teasing her by not telling who it was going to be, because I wanted it to be a surprise to her that I had a sister and she was the reason why we even met in the first place.
“You’ll see Jenny. I’m not telling because she said I shouldn’t” I replied and I almost bit my tongue when I realized I just dropped a clue for her to guess who it could be that we were meeting at the dining room.
“Is it your luna? You’re married?” she asked me in a rather surprisingly calm voice as she looked up at me with her doe eyes and I almost got lost in her eyes before I quickly held myself back and cleared my throat. Then I resumed walking and I saw that we had gotten to the stairs. We were close already.
“You aren’t going to say anything?” she asked me again and I chuckled. I couldn’t even tell if she was asking because she just wanted to know or if it was for another reason. I also couldn’t read her feelings too because she was a closed off and locked book, kept away in a dark corner. She wasn’t accessible and it was beginning to get frustrating at that point because for the first time, I couldn’t read a fellow werewolves feelings.
“You’ll see Jenny. That’s all I can say for now” I said back to her when I saw she was still looking at me and waiting for an answer and she looked away after I spoke.
The air around her seemed so calm and I couldn’t help but wonder what she could possibly be thinking about. I was curious and it felt new to me to be so invested in what someone felt because I always knew… especially with the fact that I also knew nothing about her.
We finally arrived at the dining room, and I entered with Jenny still in my arms. Rita had her back facing toward us so Jenny couldn’t see her face but I felt when she immediately went stiff as she saw Rita and she looked at me.
“Is she the one you want me to meet?” she asked me and I nodded at her before I went past Rita and she finally noticed our presence in the room so she stood up, with a huge smile on her face. I walked to my seat that I always occupied at the top of the table and I pulled the chair that was right beside it for Jenny to sit on. I could feel Rita’s eyes on us as I gently sat Jenny who looked uncomfortable on the chair and I could tell that she was enjoying the view in excitement as Jenny thanked me once she was comfortably seated.
Rita looked at me before she linked our minds together and she asked me if Jenny was the one we were talking about minutes ago. I nodded my head and she clapped out loud excitedly while squealing like a teenager that just got her first kiss. Jenny, who was busy gazing at the walls inside the dining room, snapped her head to look at Rita who was still squealing out loud and Rita held her hand out immediately she knew she had gotten her attention.
“Hiiii, nice to meet you, I’m Rita” she said to Jenny who had been quiet all along and Jenny smiledback at her.
“Nice to meet you too, I’m Jenny” she replied as she took Rita’s hand and I watched my sister’s smile grow wider as they both shook hands.
“Are you the alpha’s luna?” Jenny suddenly asked Rita and my sister looked at me with a questioning look. I shrugged in response and she made a face at me before she turned back to Jenny who was watching us both and she laughed before she shook her head in response.
“Of course not Jenny. I’m his younger sister and I just returned to the pack today just like you after being away for many years” she explained and I saw as Jenny’s eyes went wide in realization while she made an O shape with her lips.
“Oh I’m so sorry about that. He told me I was meeting someone and when he wouldn't answer if you were the Luna, I just assumed that you were” she tried to explain and Rita only laughed harder before she took the chair right next to Jenny and sat on it.
“I don’t mind Jenny. My brother can be a tease most times so I’m used to his jokes already” she said to her and I watched as Jenny smiled shyly while fidgeting with the hem of her dress.
“Thanks for saying that. I’ll take note next time” Jenny said back to her before she looked up at her and Rita winked at her, making her laugh too and I just chuckled to myself in amusement at how easily Rita could make friends with just anyone.
“You know what Jenny? I like you and for that, welcome to the South Valley pack. You also have a friend now which is me and if you’re cooler than this over time, we could be sisters” she said to her and I kicked my sister’s feet from beneath the table so she would watch her words.
She looked at me with a frown and held her hands up.
“What? I’m only being honest” she defended and I rolled my eyes at her. Then she went ahead to look at Jenny.
“I also think you’re pretty Jenny. You’re a real rare beauty babe” she added and I saw as Jenny’s eyes went wide in surprise at Rita’s compliment.
“Thanks I guess, I appreciate your compliment” Jenny said back to her but she looked like she wanted to be left alone… only that Rita didn’t notice that.
“Also, thanks again Rita. it’ll be nice to be your friend” Jenny said to her with a polite smile and Rita grinned at her. I tried connecting my mind with my sister’s mind to stop her from saying anything more to Jenny but it seemed like she had blocked me out and I knew she had no plans of stopping… just because I had met someone that actually caught my interest for the first time in a long time. She wasn’t even my mate so there was even a low probability that she would be the one for me. I was just going to stay patient for now and watch as everything would play out because I didn't know anything about her yet and it would be blind of me to already want to have something with her.
Just as I caught myself staring off at Jenny again, my beta and gamma came in at that moment and they bowed briefly before they came towards me. Then we cheerfully shook hands and they both happily hugged Rita, welcoming her back to the pack after so long, before they took their seats on the dining table too. We always had dinner together even though they were situated in the subordinate’s quarters because they were family to me and we ought to share every meal together. Once we were all seated, Rita rang the bell on the table and the maids began to come in to serve our dinner. Some placed all the meals for the night on the table while some served us the first course.
Once they were all done, they took a few steps back and bowed before they exited the dining room and it was just the four of us once again. So I stood up to do a formal introduction for Jenny. I looked at my beta and gamma and they were looking at me too with questioning eyes as they wondered who was the pretty and quiet woman that was seated beside me.
“Darwin, Sylvia, meet Jenny, a new friend that I made today. Jenny, meet Darwin and Sylvia, my beta and gamma of this pack” I introduced them to each other first before I went ahead to tell them how I met Jenny and helped her because even though I was the ruler of the pack and their leader, I still had to have an explanation for everything.
When I was done, their gazes transferred to Jenny and she smiled at them.
“Nice to meet you both. The name is Jenny Smarts” she introduced herself to them and I was surprised to see that she gave her surname too.
I silently held the name close to me so I wouldn’t forget anytime soon that the beautiful caramel skinned and brown eyed woman beside me was named Jenny Smarts and I didn’t know why but everything about her just seemed so appealing to me even though it was just hours since I met her. I just hoped that I wouldn’t regret helping and having an interest in her.
After the whole introduction episode was over, I took my seat and we all began to eat while Darwin, Sylvia and Rita talked from time in between dinner to talk about her experience at the place that she was, the same place where I found Jenny too and I began to wonder why they both had horrible experiences in the same place. Was there a reason why that was happening and why was it happening?
I and Jenny’s eyes met from time to time as we both ate and we were the only quiet ones on the table while the rest chatted away. I smiled at her and she mirrored my face too before she quickly looked away and I could tell that she felt uncomfortable eating in the middle of people that she was just meeting for the first time.
Dinner finally came to an end and Darwin and Sylvia said their good nights to us all before they left for their quarters each respectively. Rita also hugged Jenny again before she told her good night too and left for her room so it was just the both of us left in the dining room as the maids came to pack up the dirty and empty dishes from the table.
“So are you ready to head back to your room now?” I asked her and she nodded while looking up at me. I nodded before I took her hand and carried her again before I began to go up the stairs.
“From tomorrow, I’m just going to stick to the crutch nurse Aria would give me, it feels really weird letting you carry me all the time” she said to me out of nowhere and I grinned.
“But I’m not complaining,” I replied and she sighed.
“But I am alpha. I would just stick to the crutch please” she insisted and immediately, I could tell that she was building up that wall again. I was pretty sure that it was because of dinner and maybe the way they were all nice to her was overwhelming. I didn’t push or say anything more to her, I just nodded in agreement because I knew that soon, she was going to end up lowering her guard and give herself the chance to be free.
