Laura dialed the number anyway.
The call was soon connected.
Fred's voice was warm and smooth, and it was not as warm as usual, even a little urgent, as it came to Laura word by word through the handset.
"Laura! Since then, I haven't seen you or been able to contact you. I'm worried about you."
"How are you? Is everything okay? Did that Sid do something to you?"
"Laura......"
He called Laura's name again and again. Laura then remembered that the phone had been set to silent and there was no time to look at missed calls.
"I'm sorry," she whispered into the phone. "I worried you."
"We don't need to talk about it." Fred sighed and his eyes darkened.
And Laura, who between the gulf, like a close distance, thousands of miles of abyss.
Even though he was so fervent, he tried desperately to like her.
But Fred was able to see the light of day. Even now, he still thinks that as long as he works hard and is kind to Laura and his heart is not made of stone, Laura will one day cross the gap and run to him.
Fred still has the blood of a young man, but Laura, who has been so fettered by this period of time, has no courage to do anything wrong.
Fred sighs, and Laura sighs too, making Fred on the other end of the phone shiver and ask her what's wrong and what's going on.
"Fred, I need your help."
"Fred, do you remember that operation I did on Anna?" She asked.
"You mean... Both the mother and the baby died?" The word came out of his mouth without knowing what was going on, and Fred cleared his throat.
Laura has no limits, just soft voice replied: "yes, is the thing, but at the time the surgery, clearly there should be no surprise, my own work, I know, but these changes of clinically, always can't say for certain, so the past is the past, there was hesitation, but never thought scrutiny."
"Laura, you mean you suspect someone set you up, right?"
"Yes, I do think so, Fred, and I have my first suspicions."
"Who is it? Fred heard his voice rise and fall.
"Vicki."
"Vicki? You mean the big lady?" There was a note of surprise in Fred's voice. "It feels like she's just spoiled and thoughtless."
"I thought so too, but then I found out she's not as simple as I thought."
Fred wanted to say something more, but Laura got ahead of him and said:
"Fred, hearts are separated."
Fred stopped answering. He held the phone and sighed. "Laura, I'm different."
"My heart is on you, there is no gap or gap, I will never hide from you."
Fred said these words in a sour tone, so that Laura stiffly changed the subject.
"Now, Fred, let's not talk about that."
Laura paused, her throat dry: "Anna's thing, please."
"Don't worry, I'll do it today."
Seeing her intention to avoid, Fred stopped the topic at the right time. He thought that there would be a long time in the future, and Laura's heart was not made of stone. Eventually, Laura would be moved by him.
But Fred doesn't know that Laura is not the Laura she used to be. She has a baby and everything has changed.
No sooner had Fred hung up the phone than he plunged into the investigation.
Fred had a lot of connections, some of them top people, some of them technical people.
He made a quick phone call.
"What do you want, Sir?"
"Check out a hospital for me, the one Laura was in."
Laura was in the central hospital before, is very famous, received a lot of dignitaries, has a complex relationship, want to get information from here is not a small number of people naturally.
"Ok Sir, what information do you need?"
"I wanna know detailed medical records of Laura's last clinical operation, and personal preferences of the director of central Hospital."
"Personal preference of the director of central Hospital?" The person on the other end of the line seemed to smile.
"I thought everyone knew what he liked."
"What is it?"
"Woman!"
There was laughter on the other end of the phone, and Fred laughed too. "That makes it easier."
Threatening the director of central hospital with news of his extramarital affair might work.
After Fred hung up the phone, he began to formulate a detailed plan.
A short time later, the person he had just contacted emailed him with a detailed medical history of the incident a year earlier, with the word "medical incident" prominently displayed.
Fred read it very carefully. He was not a doctor, and he had no medical experience, and he did not understand many of the medical terms.
Fred couldn't find a mistake.
He could not find anything wrong, after all, even Laura, an attending doctor with so much clinical experience, was deceived.
Time moved silently, and it was late before Sid came home.
All this time Laura was holed up in the villa, shuttling back and forth from bedroom to bathroom.
She bathed and changed clean clothes, and her hair, which had fallen down, she blow-dried it for a long time, smoothing over and over the little knots she had scratched out of it.
She covered her injured ear with plastic wrap so it wouldn't get infected in the shower. When she was done, she carefully removed the plastic wrap and wiped her white jade ears with a warm towel.
Finally tidying herself, Laura began to tidy her room again.
She cleaned every part of the room to the last drop of dirt.
After staying in this villa for a whole year, Laura has a clear idea of how to be a good wife.
When Sid came back, Laura was scrubbing the floor on her knees, her long hair soft and smooth behind her, and the light from the bedroom shone on her in a beautiful halo.
Sid frowned and said nothing.
Ten minutes ago.
"Sir, you're back."
The butler met him and took the jacket from his hand.
"Have you bought your medicine?"
Sid asked him.
"Yes, I was going to give it to madam this afternoon, but she was making a phone call at that time, so I decided to give it to her with you.”
"Phone calls?" Sid's eyebrows creased slightly. "Who's on the phone?"
"Sorry Sir, the door was closed at that time, madam's voice was very low, the sound insulation effect is good, so I did not hear clearly."
"Stupid."
Sid took the medicine from the butler's hand, his eyes darkened, and without looking back, he walked off toward the bedroom.
In his mind, he probably knew who Laura had contacted, or had a preconceived idea of who Laura would contact.
Nothing more than that man, father of Laura's bastard, Sid thought.
He had always been a man of great concealment, and when he heard this incident he did not think it had any real effect on him.
It is Laura who is wrong and Laura who is mean. It is necessary to punish Laura. There is no need to be angry.
But when Sid came into the bedroom and saw Laura half on her knees wiping the floor, the soft halo falling over her, he became agitated for no reason.
He was upset and couldn't listen to what he said. He simply threw the medicine he was holding onto the floor where Laura was wiping it. The pills fell out and spilled all over the floor.
Laura quietly picked up the pills and packed them with her head down.
"There are so many servants in the house that you are not missing." Sid didn't hesitate to laugh at her, with sarcasm in between: "If you want to do this kind of servant work, do it well, and don't wipe the floor. It's disgusting."
"Disgusting" is not a very pleasant word. Sid says "disgusting" and Laura is physically nauseous.
She tried to straighten herself up, but she felt so dizzy that she could not straighten herself for a moment. Instead of half kneeling, she was straight on the floor, holding her mouth and retching.
She didn't eat much, and she couldn't vomit anything, but she was lying on the floor retching. Sid went from "disgusting" to "extremely disgusting," and his revulsion in his eyes was like a sharp knife, jabbing at Laura's body.
She retched several times, then looked up at Sid with the meds in her hand. "Is this the meds you bought for me?" she asked faintly.
Speaking out this sentence, Laura's heart is more or less uncomfortable. People need comfort when they are vulnerable, and she is no exception.
If Sid could say anything that wasn't bad, she could handle it and get on with it.
But Sid refused to answer the question. Sid went about his words, "Calling your lover again today?"
"Thinking he'd get rid of you?"
Because Laura hadn't gotten up from the floor, Sid had to lean in, bend over, lean over her, and then reach out and squeeze her cheek, with his hands straining.
Laura had to look him in the eye.
"Listen to me, you'd better not play games. I thought I'd made myself clear enough, but you still don't learn."
Not so, Laura retorted aloud in her mind. However, because the pinched cheeks could not produce any substantive sound, so I could only shake my head weakly, the whole person was in a passive, powerless state.
But Sid doesn't feel any pity for her. "You, your child, and your lover will die a terrible death," he warned.
"Got it?" Sid asked her.
Peach blossom eyes are supposed to be amorous and beautiful, but in Sid's case, they ooze with a chill.
Laura no longer shook her head, but tried to nod her head, nodding wildly, like kowtowing.
Laura thinks she's a loser, but she can't help it.
Probably thinking Laura's attitude is sincere and that teasing a tame pet won't elicit any conquest, Sid lets her go. After Sid lets go of Laura, she tugged at him by his sleeve and looked at him imploringly.
"Do what you like to me. Fred hasn't done anything. Don't hurt him."
Laura felt sad that she was clearly looking for a way out for herself and the man's children in front of her, but in front of the man indifferent ah, but also tried to kill their children.
Laura doesn't want to tell him anything. She knows it won't help. Sid won't believe her.
Sid hates her, and she knows it.
She tried not to trouble Fred as much as possible, but she dragged him into it.
"Oh," Sid squinted at her like an ant on the ground.
"And the wild man who protects him?"
"You mind your own business."
"Don't disgust me."
Sid says "disgusting" over and over again, so much so that Laura thinks she's a disgusting woman.
Laura could say nothing more but that she felt very tired.
"Rest?"
She asked Sid, humbly.
Sid looked at her as if she had been told some terrible joke, looking her up and down.
It looks like Laura has changed clean clothes and taken a clean bath. She looks white and soft, like a freshly baked dessert cake.
It looks clean, Sid thought.
She's dirty. She's had a hymen repair. How clean can she be?
"You don't want to rest with me, do you?
"You're a servant."
Sid says these words with such a wink that Laura finally realizes that Sid is the devil. He is one of the most cold-blooded animals in the world. With words alone, he can kill people, make them miserable, humiliate them.
Laura accepted it quickly and put her head down to tidy up her clothes, which had been creased by cleaning the floor.
It was at this moment that Laura suddenly realized that she really looked like a servant.
She laughed, she laughed at herself.
"I'll sleep in the living room."
Laura wants to leave after saying this, but Sid grabs her by the wrist.
It hurt when Sid pulled her, too, without any sign of pity.
"Living room?
"You don't deserve to sleep in the living room either."
Laura heard Sid say this to her.
Neither here nor there. Just go somewhere.
Laura was irritated and looked up at Sid angrily, her eyes glistening.
