Chapter 7

Chapter 7

"In the future, Mr. Sid, that's a matter for careful deliberation. After all, doctors aren't supposed to read families' minds."

Sid was annoyed when Dr. Jamie kept repeating the same thing in his ear. Losing patience, he just waved at Dr. Jamie and said calmly, "Give her some medicine."

Dr. Jamie, tactically silent, calmly walked over to Laura with his medical kit, took out alcohol swabs and gauze, and gave her a thorough wound treatment.

Laura looked up and glanced at Sid with astonishment. Sid was looking down at her, and the two of them look at each other in an eerily awkward way.

Dr. Jamie continues to meticulously administer Laura's medicine as if no one was watching.

"Sid......" Laura cleared her throat and spoke vaguely.

When Sid suddenly changed his mind, Laura came alive again.

She thought Sid's heart is out of pity. Whether it's her child or Sid, Laura thought she's going to have some leverage in the next few days.

She struggled to make a sound, not really knowing what to say.

Sid looked at her with revulsion and rubbed his aching temples again and again.

"Don't be sentimental," he even didn't bother to call Laura's name, and didn't hide the disgust in his eyes: "I just think it's not good to do something that sees blood because Anna and her child died two days ago."

"Do you think I have relented and taken pity on you? Pity the bastard in your belly?"

Even in the presence of Dr. Jamie, Sid can laugh at Laura, mock her, and disparage her without hesitation.

Just is just a moment of illusion, Laura had some vitality of the face and instant stiff, even do not know what should be put on the expression is good.

Finally he cleared his throat and choked, trying to pull back his meagre self-respect in the presence of others:

"This is your child, not a bastard, or do you think your own child is a bastard?"

Her voice was soft, but firm, somehow convincing.

"That's enough. You don't know if you're a bastard? Aren't you the bitch who cuddles with other men in public and makes front page news the next day?"

Sid's anger is quiet, he insulted Laura, and Dr. Jamie seemed literally deaf, his face not softened by the couple's argument.

Laura hung her head again and did not speak.

She felt there was no point in engaging with Sid, and the end result would be to be spurned by him.

The couple had a brief moment of silence, and it took Dr. Jamie a long time to heal the cut on Laura's earlobe, her white ears wrapped in tiny gauze.

"All right, Mr. Sid, that's it." As he spoke, Dr. Jamie took a pen and paper from his medical kit and prescribed a simple anti-inflammatory and painkiller, as well as a cream.

"I thought I was going to have an abortion, so I didn't have the usual medicine, so I simply prescribed a few over-the-counter drugs. Mr. Sid could have just bought them for his wife. She had a lot of injuries on her body, and she had to pay attention to them during pregnancy.

Sid took the prescription from Dr. Jamie, reluctantly, and asked a servant to bring it to Him.

"Don't bother." Dr. Jamie's face was businesslike: "Mr. Sid, please follow the doctor's advice."

As Dr. Jamie leaves, a servant steps in front of him to guide him. He can't help but laugh, thinking Sid, who has just been grumpy, is like some monster with a treasure hidden behind his anger.

Dr. Jamie doesn't want to know about other people's marital lives, but he finds it amusing that Mr. Sid, who is so important in the market, is flustered.

The bedroom.

Sid, dazed by the medicine list in his hand, ruffled the wad of paper twice and stuffed it in his suit pocket.

Sid had never been good at going against his heart, and as for why, Sid didn't bother to think about it. He classified it all as a frivolous pastime.

It's natural to hate Laura.

Sid took two steps closer to Laura, who is still sitting on the edge of the bed. From Sid's point of view, she looks down at her completely.

That's ugly.

Sid told himself in his heart.

He squeezed Laura's chin so hard that she was forced to look up at him.

With a soft touch under his fingers, Sid involuntarily leans closer to Laura, his voice cold. "You listen to me, bitch."

"Don't say your baby is not mine, even if it is mine, I won't want it, understand?"

"Don't think just now I am loathe to give up. Let me tell you, I just don't have the mood to make dead this bastard just."

"Do you understand?”

Sid's words are harsh enough, and every one of them is like a poisoned knife stabbing Laura in the heart. It is extremely difficult to be forced to accept these things, but Sid still presses her over and over again to make her nod and admit.

"Do you understand?”

Sid asked again.

Laura felt as if she was wrapped in an impenetrable net. She can't avoid it, and she tried to piece together some experience from her previous miserable experience again and again, trying to follow Sid in order to survive.

She nodded slowly, the tip of her chin poking Sid's hand.

Sid looked at her like she's got some big piece of garbage on her, jerked his hands back, pronounced a simple monosyllabic word, and walked away without looking back.

The bedroom door was shut and there was a loud noise.

Laura bit her lower lip hard and could not help crying.

Life was so cruel that she had to beg to go on.

She was not dead, her child was not dead, she was not alone and had a responsibility. She had suffered a great grievance and had to bite her teeth to carry on.

Laura felt that she should not passively accept these groundless slurs and crimes. She was sentenced to death for doing nothing, which was unfair. Even if no one showed mercy to her, she had to find some way out for herself.

In the final analysis, it is only unwilling.

These are not willing to say, enough to support Laura to endure after one thing is not good.

Laura sat silently on the edge of the bed, determined after all.

The sound insulation in the bedroom was good, but Vicki's voice was so loud outside that Laura could hear her squeaky, piercing scream.

Laura rubbed her temples briefly and also felt a headache.

"Sid! Why didn't you ask the doctor to abort that woman's baby!"

Vicki watched the doctor leave and distinctly heard the servant ask how the abortion had been done so quickly.

"No miscarriage at all." With a smile in her voice, Dr. Jamie said, "Sir, I'm sorry."

The expression on Vicki's face was distorted and unsightly. She wanted to go over to Dr. Jamie and grab him by the ear and tell him that Sid can't give up Laura is the funniest joke in the world.

But with Sid still in the bedroom, she can only gouge Dr. Jamie in anger and watch him go.

The sound insulation is so good that Vicki starts leaning on the bedroom door after Dr. Jamie has left, trying to catch a conversation between two people. But apart from the male and female voices, Vicki can't hear a shred of the conversation.

She was half leaning against the door when Sid opened it and gave her a shock.

Vicki laid down in Sid's arms as if she's about to fall and tried to call him Sid in a whisper.

"Get lost." Sid was already annoyed by being leaned against by Vicki. Vicki, cold at his appearance, drew back her hands, straightened up lamely, and tried to peer through the crack in the door.

Sid didn't give her a chance to look inside. He slammed the bedroom door shut and walked down the stairs without looking back.

"Sid, did you not ask the doctor to abort that woman?" Vicki asked.

Sid tried to shake her off, but didn't. He turned to look at her and saw her clinging to his arm like a koala.

"Yes, we'll talk about it later."

Vicki managed to suppress her vigorous anger. Although she had scolded Laura thousands of times in her heart, she still kept a cool face and pretended to be a lady.

"Sid!" She called out to him in a high voice. 'Have you forgotten what sister Anna said just before she died? Have you forgotten your dead child with sister Anna? '

"Or do you feel sorry for this woman and her bastard?"

Vicki's voice is quiet and aggressive. Sid used to be able to resist a few words, but now he's in a bad mood and he doesn't have the time to engage with her. When she talks about Anna and the baby, he has no choice but to vent his anger at her. Say enough and you can go away."

Vicki's eyes are sentimental, but Sid's cold face makes everyone cold. Vicki feels icy at the sight of Sid and subconsciously thinks that Laura is the reason why Sid treats her like this.

Vicki thought Well, I'm sure Sid won't like Laura, but now Sid's voice is squeaky and sharp.

"Sid! Why didn't you ask the doctor to abort that woman's baby!"

"What's wrong with you!”

She repeated the same thing over and over again, and Sid thought she was buzzing like a fly.

"I told you to get out, do you hear me?"

"I don't want to go over it again."

He was a terrible sight to behold.

Even Vicki, no matter how cocky and domineering she may be, is intimidated by Sid and becomes quiet and silent.

Sid walked out without looking back, and as he reached the door he remembered something and waved to the butler.

The housekeeper trotted to him.

"Keep an eye on Laura so she doesn't make any more unnecessary moves."

"Yes, Sir."

'Anything else, Sir?

"Asked Sid, respectfully, after a pause and without signaling his own end.

Sid's thin lips slowly opened and closed as he pulled the crumpled medicine list out of his suit pocket and barely flattened it.

"Take the medicine as it says here and let Laura take it."

Sid said Laura's name without thinking it was strange.

"Yes, Sir." The housekeeper took it discreetly and tried to smooth out the wrinkles on the list, but this was obviously impossible, and the housekeeper soon had the sense to stop.

"She has every movement remember to report to me, boring things don't report to me."

"Yes, Sir."

The housekeeper greeted him.

With so much to do in the office, Sid, with his thin lips tightly pressed, had nothing left to say and drove away.

Laura remained in the bedroom for a long time, until Vicki's voice trailed off and disappeared outside.

Laura fumbled in her pocket for her cell phone.

Vicki talks about Anna again and again, about what happened to Anna, and about Anna's dead child.

Laura’s intuition told her that Vicki must be more than she seems.

She looked like the pampered young lady of a large family, and there was not a grain of sand in her eyes, but when she had tugged at her ear studs the look in her eyes had been horribly thick.

Laura thinks she's suspicious and scary.

Laura looked up and down the address book of her mobile phone again and again. It was only at this moment that Laura realized, somewhat belatedly, that she could not find anyone to help.

She thought it was pathetic.

As she went through the address book, her fingers lingered and slid over several names.

Finally Laura's finger stopped at Fred's name.

It was at this moment that Laura had to admit that Fred was the only one who could help her in the huge A City.

I owe him for bothering him anyway.

But Laura can't think of anything else to do.

She was not good at asking people for help and could only say sorry over and over in her heart.

She knew exactly what Fred wanted.

She can't afford it.
