She can't cook.
This was really unexpected, and the way Richard looks at me, I just hope I'm safe.
I know I did the worst yesterday, but on the other hand, he is my fiance. The previous night was crazy; I meant my moves, though. It wasn't like I was jealous.
I wanted to hide my guilty face, but no, I can withstand anything. If he wants to punish me for that, I will accept it, right?
“Hey!" He said first, and I raised my head to finally look into his charming eyes.
He was taller than I am, and I loved it. If he had not rejected me before seeing me, I would have fallen for him.
"Yeah. Good day, isn't it quite early to come over to my park?" I asked seriously, but yet again, his little pup answered.
"It's really not dad's fault. I begged him. I told him, ``I wanted to see you." He paused and lowered his head to the ground before continuing, “Because I... I miss you." He confessed to me before hugging my legs.
His words melted my heart, and I just stood like a statue. No one ever wanted me this much. Tears wanted to roll down my cheeks, but I suppressed whatever feeling that was.
"I miss you too." I hugged him back.
It wasn't totally a lie, because throughout the night, I kept thinking about him and how he always called me mommy. I dreamt about everything that happened last night. And how I felt—maybe a bit jealous—ruined Jane's intentions of seducing Richard into accepting him.
On the other hand, I think I did a favor too. If a man can reject me without getting to look at me, then I wonder what he would do. Obviously, he will decline or reject her.
"Ahem!" Richard intentionally cleared his throat.
That was when I noticed I was still hugging Andy so tight to myself. Every other wolf was staring at us. It was like a mother and son's passionate hugs. Even the maid who was with me was smiling.
"Hey pup, I think we can let go of each other now." "No. You smell nice. His childish voice came.
I felt embarrassed by his words. He just didn't want to let go. Maybe he's scared I might die or go away the way he thinks his mother did.
"Can I talk to Daddy now?" I asked, and Andy nodded. "Okay, then, go stay with her." I pointed to my maid, and he obeyed.
"Wow, he obeyed you just like that." Richard teased.
"I think he misses his mother a lot." I responded while trying not to look at Richard directly. "We are going to stay here from today." Richard said, and I choked on my saliva.
"What?" I exclaimed while trying to catch my breath. I was still coughing. "Did you just get choked because of what I said?"
I didn't let him finish his statement. He wants to make a joke of me. "You wish." I lied.
I actually got choked because of what he said. But did I hear correctly? Why would he suddenly want to stay with me? We are like strangers to each other. I know we are engaged, but that doesn't qualify a man who barely knows each other to come stay at my place.
"Why do you want to stay at my place?" I asked him. There must be a reason for this.
"Yes. It's for Andy's sake. That boy, for reasons you already know, loves you a lot."
That's one of the lamest reasons I've ever heard in my life. How will it be because a boy loves me and wants to stay with me? I was aware that I looked like his mother, but then I didn't.
Richard, seeing my reluctant face, started to explain more.
"It's not that I wish to burden you, Anna. I just couldn't stop Andy. You know many times he has cried to me that his friends do boast of how their mother takes care of them. They mock him for not having a mother. It really weighed him down, and I had to console him many times. When we met you, he insisted that he wanted to come stay with you. He kept telling me that he also wanted to have a mother," he explained with a sad expression.
I still didn't understand why that would make them stay at my place. All these excuses didn't seem clear to me.
"Anna, of all the women I know, you are the only one Andy ever felt so free with. He had already told his friends that he had found his mom. I don't want him to get disappointed. It will be too heartbreaking for him," Richard said with a pleading look.
Not that I didn't pity the boy, but staying with me while I'm still unmarried doesn't look good. It will give birth to gossip.
I also can't deny that I'm not attracted to the little boy. I kind of feel a sense of protection for him. Maybe it's because I've never heard anyone call me mommy before. Then I thought about it: I could accept the son and tell the father to leave.
"If you insist, let's do it this way. I will accept Andy, but I won't let you stay with me," I said. Richard gave me a dissatisfied look.
"I know you are doing me a favor, but I can't leave my son to you because we don't know each other too well. Moreover, Andy might give you a little trouble, so me staying for the main time might be good for you," he said calmly.
Although I sensed treachery in Richard's words and that he was just using Andy as an excuse to stay with me because I look like his dead wife, I still had to help Andy. If anyone could know the feeling of being mocked, I should. I have been mocked many times, and I know how sad it feels. So I share Andy's feelings, and I know I deserve to let the boy stay, even if it's for the time he will understand that I can't be his mommy.
"Okay." I said it dryly and turned away.
I might change my mind. From my corner, I saw him smile. I guess he was using his son as an excuse.
It was more fun than I thought. Andy kept sticking to me. He wouldn't stop talking about how he was going to boast to his friends that he now had a very beautiful mommy. I kept blushing as he was talking.
Richard was watching us, but that wasn't my concern. I would make sure to avoid that man. I know the reason he is sticking is because he took me for another woman. Later, if he realized I'm a totally different person, he would leave me, and that would not be good for my poor heart. I've already made up my mind that nothing called love will enter there. This man is a stranger, and a stranger he will be.
"Mommy, I'm hungry," Andy said to me.
Anytime Andy calls me mommy, I get goosebumps all over me. I looked at Richard, who was also looking at us. I wondered what was on his mind.
"What do you want to eat?" I asked with a friendly smile. "Anything mommy gives me," Andy said with a childish smile.
It was as if the little pup was blackmailing me with his mommy call, but it was kind of cute, and I couldn't help but smile.
"Ok, then, let me get the cook to make you something," Anna said.
"Andy, why not tell mommy to cook for you? Won't it be good to taste mommy's cooking?" Richard said.
I didn't know why he decided to say that. My heart beat hard all of a sudden. I glared at him for saying that.
" Yay!!" Andy shouted happily.
He seems thrilled with what his father just said, and I know I'm doomed. This little one never gives up.
"I've never tasted mommy's cooking before. Mommy, please cook for me," he said, blinking his face several times.
That was so appealing but too bad. I don't know how to cook; if not, I would have done it without a second thought. I didn't want to embarrass myself, so I decided to try it out. It shouldn't be hard to cook, right?
I headed to the kitchen with Andy beside me. I wish he would stay so that if I cook rubbish, I would be able to quickly ask someone to help, but he wouldn't. Later, I noticed that even Richard was behind us. I don't know why they decided to torture me today.
My cook, when she saw me in the kitchen, quickly stood up. "Alpha," she bowed. "How may I help you?"
"Nothing. I came to cook," I said to her.
She looked at me in shock; she knew I had never stepped foot in the kitchen, but she quickly adjusted when she saw the way I looked at her.
"Ok, Alpha," she said and stepped aside.
I looked everywhere, almost crying. I didn't even know where to start. The kitchen is not my thing.
"I can help you with anything, Alpha," my cook said. "It's fine. You can go."
It's my stupid pride that said that, because the real me wouldn't have said such a thing.
My cook looked at me for a while before she reluctantly left. Andy and Richard were looking at me. They wouldn't even look away. Andy was looking at me happily as I began to pick different ingredients that I didn't even know about.
I put a frying pan on the gas cooker and poured oil into it, but afterwards I was so confused about what to do. I looked at the eggs that I brought out, biting my lower lip.
Richard then came closer to me and turned off the gas cooker. It was then that I realized it was already removing smoke.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I got carried away," I said with an ignominy.
I looked at Andy, who had already covered his nose. I felt so ashamed of myself. "You can't cook," Richard said with a mocking, knowing smile.
I felt like the floor should swallow me. I didn't know there would be a day when I would feel so embarrassed because I didn't know how to cook. Although I'm ashamed, Richard isn't my priority, but Andy was. He's the reason I'm in this kitchen. I looked down at Andy, who was also looking at me. I didn't know if he was disappointed, but I knew I owed him an apology. I squatted to meet his height.
"Andy, I'm so sorry to disappoint you. I can't cook," I said with a sad face.
Yes, I was truly sad. The pup adores me, but the only thing he wants from me is that I can't do it. "It's fine, mommy," Andy said, hugging me.
I was moved because he is such a person with understanding. I was relieved that he didn't cry like I thought he would.
"I would get the cook to make something okay," I said to him. "Let me!" Richard uttered.
I was surprised he said that.
"You can cook?" I asked, but Andy replied instead. "He is the best! Andy said excitedly.
I looked at him for a while as he gave me a proud smile. I know it would be a shame for me if I let him cook.
"No, I can't let you. The news would get out. You are my guest," I spit out before pitching myself. "Let the cook do it, please."
I tried to make him change his mind. "It's my choice." He persisted.
He took off his shirt immediately and gave it to me. He has his singlet on. His abs are so adorable. What a handsome fella he is. Now I wonder if other she-wolves want him.
Andy and I stood there and watched him behave like a master in the kitchen. I watched how he deftly did all his cuttings, whisking, and many others. It was so perfect that I couldn't help but awe him.
I couldn't help but think about all my days as a pup and how I couldn't even fry an egg. It was a shame on my part.
Soon, different kinds of dishes were sitting on the table. Andy and I only helped to set the table since there was nothing we could do. Just looking at the beautiful masterpiece on the table was so tempting. I sat with Andy; it was like a complete family, about to have a meal together.
Richard offered to dish the food, and while he was doing that, I gazed at his face. He was sweaty and so handsome.
"It's time!" He said that and waved his hands to wake me up.
I blushed. I didn't even notice I was caught. I shyly scooped an amount of food into my mouth, and my eyes widened.
"Damn, it is delicious." I said.
"Told you so," Andy said with excitement.
I looked at Richard, and our eyes met. I quickly avoided his eyes by looking down at my good side. He must have learned how to cook from his dead ex-wife. What a good wife she is; she taught him how to cook so well.
"Your late wife taught you well!" I commented before I could stop myself.
Richard was quiet and didn't utter a word. Maybe I said too much. I turned back to my food and remained calm.
Afterwards, it was awkwardly quiet as no one talked.
We finished eating, and I decided to stay outside. I needed air. Richard has not said a word after what I said. He must have been sad that I mentioned his dead wife. That's ok, bad on my big mouth.
"Anna." I heard someone call, and I turned.
There he was, both hands in his pocket, and Andy wasn't with him. I just want to avoid this man. He is just all over me.
"I'm sorry about what happened inside. I couldn't say anything because of... Angel was a horrible cook. And the food I just prepared was her favorite."
It is my favorite food too. This is a coincidence.
I intentionally didn't tell Richard that that was my favorite food because it would give him more reasons to call me Angel, and I don't like it.
When I went back inside, Richard was there since I couldn't avoid him, and we continued chatting on the day off.
"it.
