I woke up in the middle of the night because Soraya was not in the tent beside me. We had stopped to camp for the night since driving in the dark on mountain roads was too dangerous. I had set up a small tent and we were supposed to sleep until morning.

But now Soraya was gone and I had no idea where she went.

I grabbed my flashlight and climbed out of the tent. The forest around us was dark and quiet except for the usual sounds of insects and small animals moving through the underbrush.

"Soraya?" I called out quietly. "Where are you?"
