Chapter 1 One

Chapter 1 One

The peaceful evening was abruptly shattered by the distant sound of howling wolves, the harbinger of an imminent attack. Brielle Asher stood at the window of her family’s home, her heart pounding as the howls grew louder. Her father, Alpha Jaxon Asher, was preparing for battle, his stern face illuminated by the moonlight.

“Brielle, you need to stay hidden,” her father commanded, his voice firm. “Take your mother and sister to the cellar. Now.”

Brielle’s mother, Marissa, grabbed her younger sister, Lydia, and hurried towards the cellar. Brielle hesitated; her eyes locked on her father’s.

“I can fight, Father,” she insisted, her voice trembling with determination. “I’m not a child.”

“You’re the future of this pack,” Jaxon replied, his gaze softening for a moment. “We can’t afford to lose you. Now go.”

Reluctantly, Brielle followed her mother and sister to the cellar. As they descended into the darkness, the sounds of battle grew closer, the clash of metal and the snarls of wolves echoing through the night. Brielle’s heart raced, fear and adrenaline coursing through her veins.

“Stay quiet,” Marissa whispered, pulling Lydia close. “We’ll be safe here.”

Brielle’s mind raced. She couldn’t just sit and wait while her pack was under attack. She peered through the small window of the cellar, her eyes widening as she saw the Crimson Shadow pack tearing through their defenses. Among them was their ruthless leader, Alpha Darius Thornfield, his presence commanding and terrifying.

The night was a blur of chaos and bloodshed. Brielle watched helplessly as her pack members fell, their screams piercing the night. Her father fought valiantly, but even he was no match for Darius and his men. Brielle’s breath caught in her throat as she saw her father fall, Darius standing over him with a cold, triumphant smile.

“No!” Brielle cried out, her voice breaking. She turned to her mother, her eyes pleading. “We have to help him.”

Marissa shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “We can’t, Brielle. We have to stay hidden.”

Brielle’s world was crashing down around her. Her father was dead, her pack was being slaughtered, and there was nothing she could do. The cellar door burst open, and Brielle’s heart stopped. Standing in the doorway was Darius, his eyes cold and merciless.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” Darius sneered, his gaze sweeping over the terrified women.

“Leave them alone!” Brielle shouted, stepping in front of her mother and sister. “They’re innocent.”

Darius laughed, a cruel sound that sent shivers down Brielle’s spine. “Innocent? In war, there are no innocents.”

Before Brielle could react, Darius lunged forward, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her out of the cellar. She struggled against his grip, but he was too strong.

“You’re coming with me,” he said, his voice a low growl. “I have plans for you.”

Brielle’s mind raced as she was dragged through the chaos. She knew she had to survive, if not for herself, then for her family. She had to find a way to escape, to avenge her father’s death, and to protect her mother and sister. Her resolve hardened as she was thrown into a cage with other captives, their eyes filled with fear and hopelessness.

“We’ll get through this,” Brielle whispered to herself, her eyes burning with determination. “I’ll make sure of it.”

The days that followed were a blur of pain and despair. Brielle was transported to the Crimson Shadow pack’s territory, a place that reeked of death and cruelty. She was thrown into a dark, damp cell, her body aching from the journey and the rough treatment. She could hear the cries of other captives, their sobs echoing through the halls.

“Stay strong, Brielle,” she whispered to herself, clutching the bars of her cell. “You can’t give up now.”

The sound of footsteps echoed through the corridor, and Brielle tensed. The door to her cell creaked open, and a figure stepped inside. It was a woman, her eyes cold and calculating.

“So, you’re the famous Brielle Asher,” the woman said, her voice dripping with disdain. “I’m Seraphine Kane, Darius’s second-in-command.”

Brielle glared at Seraphine, her jaw clenched. “What do you want?”

Seraphine smirked, stepping closer. “You’re a valuable asset, Brielle. Darius has big plans for you. But first, you need to learn your place.”

Before Brielle could respond, Seraphine struck her across the face, the force of the blow sending her to the ground. Pain exploded in Brielle’s head, but she refused to cry out. She wouldn’t give them the satisfaction.

“You’ll learn soon enough,” Seraphine said, her voice cold. “Welcome to your new life.”
