Chapter 2 Two

Chapter 2 Two

Brielle lay on the cold, hard floor, her body trembling with pain and anger. She knew she had to stay strong, to keep fighting. She wouldn’t let them break her.

Days turned into weeks, and Brielle endured countless torments. She was forced to work long hours, her body pushed to its limits. She was beaten, starved, and humiliated, but she never gave up. She kept her father’s words in her heart, his memory giving her the strength to endure.

One day, as she was scrubbing the floors of the packhouse, she overheard a conversation that made her blood run cold. Darius was talking to Seraphine, his voice low and menacing.

“The girl is becoming a problem,” Darius said. “She’s too defiant.”

Seraphine laughed, a cruel sound that grated on Brielle’s nerves. “Don’t worry, Alpha. I’ll take care of her.”

Brielle’s heart raced. She knew she had to act quickly. She couldn’t wait any longer. That night, she lay awake in her cell, her mind racing with plans. She knew the packhouse well enough by now to know where Darius’s quarters were. She just needed to find a way to get there without being caught.

As the moon rose high in the sky, Brielle made her move. She slipped out of her cell, moving silently through the shadows. She avoided the guards, her heart pounding with fear and adrenaline. She reached Darius’s quarters and paused, her hand trembling as she reached for the door.

“You can do this,” she whispered to herself. “For Father. For the pack.”

She pushed the door open and slipped inside. The room was dark, but she could make out Darius’s form lying on the bed. Her heart pounded as she crept closer, her hand reaching for the dagger she had stolen from the kitchen.

Suddenly, Darius’s eyes snapped open, and Brielle froze. He moved with lightning speed, grabbing her wrist and twisting it painfully.

“Did you really think you could kill me?” Darius growled, his eyes burning with fury. “You’re a fool, Brielle.”

Brielle struggled against his grip, but he was too strong. He slammed her against the wall, his hand tightening around her throat.

“I’ve been watching you,” Darius said, his voice low and dangerous. “I know what you’re planning. And I won’t let you succeed.”

Brielle gasped for breath, her vision blurring. She knew she was losing consciousness, but she couldn’t give up. She had to fight.

With a burst of strength, she kicked Darius in the stomach, causing him to loosen his grip. She scrambled to her feet, but he was already on her, pinning her to the ground.

“You’re mine, Brielle,” Darius snarled, his face inches from hers. “You’ll never escape me.”

Brielle’s heart sank. She knew he was right. She was trapped, with no way out. But she wouldn’t stop fighting. She would find a way to escape, no matter what it took.

Darius dragged her back to her cell, throwing her inside with a look of disgust. “You’ll pay for this,” he said, slamming the door shut. “You’ll wish you were dead.”

Brielle lay on the cold, hard floor, her body aching and her spirit crushed. But she refused to give up. She would survive. She would escape. And she would make Darius pay for everything he had done.

The days that followed were a blur of pain and despair. Brielle’s spirit was pushed to its limits, but she refused to break. She knew she had to stay strong, for herself and for her family. She had to find a way to escape this nightmare.

One day, as she was working in the kitchen, she overheard a conversation that gave her a glimmer of hope.

“Darius is planning to leave for a few days,” one of the guards said. “Something about a meeting with the other Alphas.”

Brielle’s heart raced. This was her chance. With Darius gone, she might have a chance to escape. She just needed to be patient and wait for the right moment.

As the days passed, Brielle bided her time, her eyes always watching for an opportunity. She noticed that the guards were more relaxed with Darius gone, their vigilance slipping. She knew this was her chance.

One night, Brielle lay in her cell, her mind racing. She could hear the faint sounds of laughter and conversation coming from the guards’ quarters. The packhouse was less guarded without Darius’s presence. It was now or never.

With a determined breath, she quietly slipped out of her cell. Moving with the stealth of a seasoned warrior, she navigated the dark hallways, avoiding the few guards who were still on duty. Her heart pounded in her chest as she made her way to the kitchen, where she had hidden a small, sharp knife earlier that day.

As she crept into the kitchen, she heard a soft voice behind her. “Brielle, is that you?”

She spun around, her heart in her throat, only to see one of the other slaves, a girl named Clara, standing there with wide eyes. “Clara,” Brielle whispered, pressing a finger to her lips. “You have to be quiet.”

Clara nodded; her eyes filled with fear. “What are you doing?”

“I’m getting out of here,” Brielle replied, her voice steady. “And you should come with me.”

Clara hesitated, glancing around nervously. “But... what if we get caught?”

Brielle stepped closer, placing a hand on Clara’s shoulder. “We can’t live like this anymore. We deserve to be free. Please, come with me.”

Clara took a deep breath, her eyes locking with Brielle’s. “Okay. I’ll come.”

Together, they slipped out of the kitchen and made their way to the packhouse’s rear exit. Brielle’s heart pounded with each step, the fear of being caught gnawing at her resolve. But she pushed forward, determined to see this through.

As they reached the door, a loud voice rang out behind them. “Where do you think you’re going?”

Brielle spun around to see Seraphine standing in the hallway, her eyes blazing with fury. “Did you really think you could escape?”

Clara whimpered, but Brielle stepped forward, holding the knife in front of her. “I won’t let you stop us, Seraphine.”

Seraphine laughed, a cold, cruel sound. “You think you can fight me with that little knife? You’re even more foolish than I thought.”

Without warning, Seraphine lunged at Brielle. Brielle swung the knife, but Seraphine was too fast, easily dodging the blow and grabbing Brielle’s wrist. Pain shot through Brielle’s arm as Seraphine twisted it, forcing her to drop the knife.

“Enough of this,” Seraphine snarled, throwing Brielle to the ground. “You’re coming with me.”

Clara screamed and tried to run, but Seraphine grabbed her by the hair, pulling her back. “You’re not going anywhere, either.”

Brielle struggled to her feet, her body aching from the fall. She knew she couldn’t win against Seraphine in a fight, but she had to do something. She glanced around desperately, her eyes falling on a heavy iron pot hanging by the fireplace.

Summoning all her strength, Brielle lunged for the pot, swinging it with all her might. The pot connected with Seraphine’s head with a sickening thud, and Seraphine crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

Brielle dropped the pot, her breath coming in ragged gasps. “Come on, Clara,” she said, grabbing the other girl’s hand. “We have to go, now.”

They ran out of the packhouse, the cold night air biting at their skin. Brielle didn’t know where they were going, but she knew they had to get as far away from the Crimson Shadow pack as possible.

They ran through the forest, the trees closing in around them like silent sentinels. Brielle’s heart pounded in her chest, fear and adrenaline propelling her forward. She could hear Clara’s ragged breaths beside her, but she didn’t dare slow down.

After what felt like hours, they finally stumbled upon a small clearing. Brielle collapsed to the ground, her body trembling with exhaustion. Clara sank down beside her, tears streaming down her face.

“We made it,” Clara whispered, her voice filled with a mix of relief and disbelief. “We actually made it.”

Brielle nodded, her own tears mingling with the dirt on her face. “We did. But we can’t stop here. We have to keep moving.”

Clara looked at Brielle, her eyes filled with determination. “I’ll follow you, Brielle. Wherever you go, I’ll follow.”

Brielle smiled weakly, squeezing Clara’s hand. “Thank you. We’ll find a safe place, I promise.”

They rested for a few more minutes, gathering their strength, before setting off again. The forest seemed endless, but Brielle kept moving, driven by the hope of finding safety and freedom.

As dawn broke, casting a pale light through the trees, they stumbled upon an old, abandoned cabin. Brielle approached it cautiously, her senses on high alert. The cabin looked like it hadn’t been used in years, but it offered shelter and a chance to rest.

“We can stay here for now,” Brielle said, pushing the door open. “Just until we figure out our next move.”

Clara nodded, following Brielle inside. The cabin was small and dusty, but it was safe. For the first time in weeks, Brielle felt a glimmer of hope.

“We’ll be okay,” she said, more to herself than to Clara. “We’ll figure this out.”

Clara gave her a small smile, wiping away her tears. “I believe you, Brielle.”

As they settled into the cabin, Brielle’s mind raced with plans for their future. She knew they couldn’t stay here forever, but for now, they were safe. And that was enough.

They spent the next few days recuperating and planning. Brielle scouted the surrounding area, ensuring they were truly alone. She hunted for food, using the skills her father had taught her, and they made the cabin as comfortable as possible.

One evening, as they sat by the fire, Clara looked at Brielle, her expression serious. “What are we going to do now? We can’t stay here forever.”

Brielle nodded, staring into the flames. “I know. We need to find a place where we can be safe, where we can start over. I’ve heard rumors of a pack that offers refuge to those who need it. It’s a long journey, but I think it’s our best chance.”

Clara looked thoughtful, then nodded. “Okay. Let’s do it. Let’s find this pack and start over.”

Brielle smiled, feeling a sense of determination she hadn’t felt in a long time. “We’ll leave at first light. Get some rest, Clara. We have a long journey ahead of us.”

That night, as Brielle lay by the fire, she thought about her father, her mother, and her sister. She thought about the life she had lost and the new life she was determined to build. She would find this refuge, and she would protect Clara. And someday, she would make Darius Thornfield pay for everything he had done.

As dawn broke, Brielle and Clara packed their few belongings and set out on their journey. The forest was quiet, the air crisp and cool. Brielle led the way, her heart filled with hope and determination.
