CHAPTER 2
DIANE’S POV
"Submit to me, and I might just spare you from further torment," Cassandra says, her voice laced with malice.
"Never," I reply, my voice low and fierce. "I will not be broken by the likes of you."
"Such arrogance," Cassandra sneers. "But we'll see how long that lasts."
"Your cruelty will never break me," I say, determination ringing clear in my voice.
"Perhaps not," she concedes with a shrug. "But it should be entertaining to watch you try."
The pain is nearly unbearable, but I grit my teeth and force myself to stand tall before her. I will not show any signs of weakness, no matter how much she tries to inflict upon me.
My body wracked with pain as the wolfsbane courses through my veins. My muscles seize and convulse, threatening to bring me down to my knees.
"Pathetic," Cassandra sneers, her eyes alight with cruel amusement as she watches me struggle. "Is this all the great hybrid princess is capable of?"
I can feel my anger rising, fueled by the pain and humiliation she's inflicting upon me. But I keep my expression neutral, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing me break.
But even as I steel myself against the agony, I can feel the darkness creeping in around the edges of my vision. I know that if I don't find a way to fight it back, I will be lost forever.
"Fight it," I tell myself, gritting my teeth against the pain. "You are stronger than this."
"Please," I gasp out, my voice barely audible over the pounding in my ears. "Make it stop."
But Cassandra only laughs, a cruel sound that echoes off the walls of the chamber.
"Pathetic," she says again, her voice dripping with disdain. "I expected more from a hybrid like you."
And as I slip further into darkness, I know that I have failed. Failed to protect myself, failed to protect my pack, and failed to stand up against the tyranny of Beta Cassandra.
I stumble forward, my body wracked with pain as I plead with Cassandra to end my torment. The vial of wolfsbane falls from my hand, clattering against the stone floor as I collapse onto my knees.
"Stop," I cry out, my voice filled with desperation. "Please, just make it stop."
But Cassandra only continues to laugh, her eyes alight with sadistic pleasure as she revels in my suffering.
"Please," I plead, tears streaming down my face as I look up at Cassandra. "I'll do anything you want, just please make it stop."
"Anything?" she says, a sly smile playing upon her lips. "Interesting. We'll have to see how long that lasts."
"Please," I repeat, my voice barely above a whisper now. "I can't take it anymore."
"Then perhaps you should have thought twice before defying me," Cassandra says, her voice cold and unyielding.
"Defying you?" I say, my voice rising in disbelief. "I haven't done anything wrong."
"Your mere existence is a threat to my power," Cassandra says, her eyes flashing with anger. "But don't worry, dear stepdaughter. This will all be over soon enough."
My vision blurs as I feel my body go limp, the poison coursing through my veins dragging me down into an abyss of darkness. The last thing I hear is Cassandra's laughter ringing in my ears, a haunting reminder of the betrayal that has left me broken and alone.
"Is this how it ends?" I think to myself, struggling to hold on to consciousness. "Betrayed by the one person I trusted most?"
I can feel my heart pounding in my chest, each beat like a hammer striking against my ribcage. All around me, the darkness seems to press in, suffocating me with its weight.
"Please," I whisper, my voice lost in the emptiness. "Someone, anyone, help me."
But there is no answer, no salvation from the horror that surrounds me. I am alone, abandoned in the darkness with nothing but my pain to keep me company.
