Chapter five

The air in the room was hot to me even though the AC was working, I was sweating profusely. My attempt to explain myself to Xavier fell on deaf ears, his hate for me overshadowed any of my explanations. The weight of his accusations pressed down on me, leaving me breathless under the burden of his disbelief.

“I promise you, Xavier, I was only doing what Aurora instructed me to do. She is the mastermind of all this,” I pleaded, with desperation in my voice. Yet, my words seem to mean nothing to him.

“This is what you always do, you always blame others for your mistakes and for what you do. You are so full of pretence,” Xavier accused, with his words piercing my heart.

His accusations pierced through my heart, not just because they were lies, but because I knew deep down that no explanation would be enough for him.

The love he has for Aurora blinded him to the truth I have.

I glance at Aurora, who wore a mysterious expression, jubilating at the mess she had made, she must be happy right now, and proud of herself

Mare staring at her ignited a flame of anger within me, I was furious at how pretentious she was, and I was tired of all this treatment from her, and without a second thought, I raised my hand to slap her.

Xavier blocked the slap, seizing my hand and pushing me away.

The force of his push made me stumble backwards, and as I tried to regain my balance, I felt a sharp pain below my stomach. I held my belly, as I winced in pain.

“What are you trying to do, Amelia? Are you trying to hit Aurora?” Xavier questioned, he sounded unbelievable, he was surprised that I wanted to hit Aurora.

The pain in my stomach increased, my hand was still on my stomach, and the pain was unbearable.

I realized that I am the bad person in Xavier's eyes, I am the one who always gets blamed just like how Xavier is blaming me for Aurora's scheme. He trusted Aurora so much.

"Brother, stop this. You need to calm down. Besides, there is a security camera in this company. Aurora is your assistant; do you think Amelia could go to your office and tamper with any documents there?" Dwayne said to Xavier.

That would be a great idea if Xavier considered the security footage as a means of knowing what truly transpired, I could see the uneasiness in Aurora.

I have hope, that the evidence would set me free, it could clear me.

"Stay out of this, Dwayne," Xavier warned Dwayne harshly, his stubbornness and love for Aurora overshadowed any proof, and I was hurt once again.

"Why don't you want to do as your brother said? That is the only way to prove my innocence," I interjected, holding my stomach, the pain I was feeling was something different, I had never felt this kind of pain before.

"Shut up, you. Do you think you have a say in this? You are just a nobody" Xavier said snapping his fingers in my face, like he was waking me, and reminding me of my place.

"Why? Do you know the truth? Why turn a blind eye instead, just to show me how much you hate me?" I challenged, tears streaming down my face.

Xavier gripped my hand, he looked so angry as he dragged me out of the office aggressively. The pain in my stomach increased with every step I took, and each step sent pain through my body. I felt dizzy and like passing out.

"Stop, please, I beg you," I pleaded, my voice weak and tired.

But my pleas fell on deaf ears as Xavier, who was consumed by his anger remained stubborn as he continued to drag me. Everywhere seemed to be a blur, my head was spinning.

"Xavier, please," I gasped for breath, my voice barely audible as I passed out.

***

My eyes fluttered open, greeted by the sterile, white surroundings of a hospital room. I could smell the antiseptic scent. I sat up in the bed slowly, noticing that I was in an unfamiliar surrounding.

I looked up and saw Xavier standing by the bedside, his gaze fixed on me. As I tried to remember what happened, I was confused.

"What happened?" I asked, my voice was barely audible.

"Are you tired of pretending that you passed out? I know that everything you are doing is full of pretence, passing out was just a plan for you to escape my punishment" Xavier accused. I was so tired, and I didn't want to drag it further.

I ignored his words trying to think about what had happened that brought me to the hospital, and made me lie in the hospital bed. The pain in my stomach was still there, but it wasn't like the pain I felt earlier.

I wanted to ask Xavier again, maybe to confirm the reason why I passed out, but his phone rang, getting in my way.

He answered the call, his voice hushed as he walked out of the hospital room. I was left alone with my thoughts on what could be the reasons for my passing out.

Just as I was thinking, Aurora entered the room, she held a small envelope in her hand, and her presence reminded me that she would surely have other motives.

“You are awake, I thought you died,” she said truthfully, her words dripped with hatred, her words are a reminder of the hate she has for me.

"What are you doing here, Aurora?" I questioned, I was suspicious of her, I don't trust her. I waited for the reason why she was here with me.

She let out a laugh, her eyes burning with a mixture of jealousy and anger.

“You steal what is rightfully mine” She spat.

"You and I both know that you drugged Xavier's drink, and he still blames me for doing that. But I am not the one who drugged his drink; it's you." I said.

Her eyes widened in disbelief, as I said the truth. She was surprised. But she arranges her composure.

"But you spoiled my plan," she said shamelessly, her voice seething with rage. "After giving him the drink, you had sex with him instead of me. I hate you for that because you took my place." She yelled.

"Aurora, stop all this nonsense you are doing. You will get tired of everything eventually," I retorted.

"I can never get tired, not after I saw this," Aurora said, leaving me confused about what she saw. She tossed the envelope towards me.

My gaze remained fixed on her, I was cautious of Aurora with every part of my body, because I knew she was capable of doing anything. I picked up the envelope carefully, my fingers trembling with an unease.

As I opened the envelope, a piece of paper was inside, I opened it and was shocked by what I saw. It was a pregnancy result, my pregnancy result.

The room seemed to blur as I tried to understand what was going on. Questions swirled in my mind, demanding answers I wasn't sure I was prepared to hear.

"Am I pregnant, or did you manipulate the results?" I questioned, my voice was filled with uncertainty and fear.

"I don't care whichever way you see this or whatever you want to believe, but I am here for one reason, and the reason is for you to abort that bastard in your womb," Aurora responded coldly.

I held my stomach protectively. Aurora's real desire is for me to get rid of my unborn child, I won't allow it by any means.
