The clock on my screen finally turned 3:30. I closed the document I had been staring at without reading, stood up, and smoothed my blouse with both hands. My legs felt unsteady as I walked the short distance toward the glass office at the end of the floor. The carpet was thick enough to swallow most of the sound of my heels.
