Khalid and I hurried to the scene, and I noticed him desperately searching the area, his eyes fuming with anger at a ferocity I have never seen before. The area was clear which was a surprise.

We had seen the men run in this direction, that, I am certain of, but the area was clear, there was no one here, I could feel that, and I know Khalid could feel it too.

They weren't here which means that they had managed to escape somehow.
