Azrial felt as a sense of determination bubbled inside him. He knew that his actions were considered to be stupid as well as reckless but he didn’t care. If this flower was capable of doing what they said it was then he was going to find it no matter what.
He was desperate after all and he had let down his people one too many times already. He wasn’t willing to let them down again. He read through the rest of the scroll as he took note of the location of the flower. It was perched between the twin mountains of Salv. Many people had tried to find it before but none had returned.
He didn’t know what made him think that he would be any different but he didn’t care. He wasn’t going to be the reason why his people lost their last hope. He took the scroll into his hands before he began making his way back out of the tent. He was met with Raf who seemed to be the only person who had been civil towards him since his arrival.
“So have you found what you are looking for?” He asked him curiously and Azrial nodded his head at him because the truth was harder for him to explain. “Well yes. I know now where I will be able to find what I am looking for.” He said to Raf.
He felt the gazes of numerous people around the field that were still trained on him. “Well I am glad that you have, but I must apologize, I don’t mean to push you out but you must leave now.” He spoke and Azrial stared at him with a raised eyebrow before he glanced his eyes around the field.
“You are not welcome here and the elders are unsettled by your presence.” Raf spoke and although Azrial saw the guilt that was clear in his eyes he tried not to be hurt by his words.
“Well thank you for your help.” He said to him with a small smile. He turned around to leave and although there had been a time when he had begged and hoped that he would be accepted by these people, now when he looked at them he felt nothing at all.
The journey back home was quicker in his wolf form. He wanted to tell his people what he had found. He knew that it would spark large controversy but it was all that he had left. He couldn’t risk letting them die because of him because of the fact that he would have never forgiven himself.
He made it back to his tribe just as the sun was starting to rise over the horizon. He was met with deafening silence and for a moment he had assumed the worst. He looked around and he saw that the huts had been trashed and he could have sworn he saw several blood splatters.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when he watched as Raf came out from the tents. He was one of the gammas and he seemed shocked to see that the Alpha had returned. “What happened here, gamma?”Azrial asked him stoically.
Raf sighed before he began to explain to him as he said, “we were ambushed by hunters. We still have a few strong men left but even still they were able to take a few of us down. It seems as though word has spread that we are vulnerable and the hunters have set their eyes on this pack.”
Azrial felt a sense of dread come over him at the mention of hunters. He had expected for this to happen and this was the last thing that he had wanted.
“Please tell me that you have found a solution and that you are able to find a cure for this ailment. Soon enough this place will be nothing more than a distant memory.” He said and Azrial coughed before looking at him stoically.
“Gather the men who remain and tell them that a meeting will hold now.” He spoke as he revealed the scroll from behind him. The man nodded his head at him before turning to leave. He came to a stand in front of the bonfire as he began to pace back and forth in front of it.
Azrial stood in front of the men as they looked at him with confusion. “Well what is it? Why have you gathered us here?” Elder Sak spoke with irritation. Azrial sighed as he ran a hand down his face and pulled out the scroll. The men looked at it before furrowing their eyebrows in confusion.
“What is the meaning of this?” Sak asked and Azrial let out a sigh from his lips before he began to explain to him. “It is the flower Zan it is the only thing that is capable of saving the people and it is our last hope.” He said to them firmly and he watched as the men let out loud booming laughs.
“Do you take this pack as some type of joke? Men are dying and you wish to entertain yourself with silly fairy tales. The flower is a legend and yet you say it is our only hope. And who do you believe will find this flower.” He asked challengingly.
“The flower is real and I will go on the search myself.” He spoke and he watched as Sak clenched his jaw at him once more. “You wish to risk the safety of the pack yet again to go on your own adventures. You are a sorry excuse for an Alpha. When are you going to wake up and realize that the only way to save the pack is by being physically there to protect them not to be out there gallivanting.” He yelled.
Azrial remained unfazed as he said, “I am going on the search whether you approve it or not.” He watched as Sak stared him down before saying, “I hope you will be ready to face the consequences because when you return you may no longer hold your Alpha title.” Sak spoke and Azrial watched frozen as the elders walked away leaving him alone to his thoughts.
