The air smelled different here, thick with salt and something sharp I didn’t like. Portland wasn’t Seattle, not by a long shot. But this was where I was headed. Where Kalilah was hiding, and I was done chasing shadows.

She was here somewhere.

I don’t know where but she wasn’t going to be able to hide for long.

It was strange being here out of Seattle. For most of my life that place had been my home but now it didn’t matter.

Kalilah was where my home was and she was going to have to realize that.
