The next day, I went to work as usual. Despite my provocation yesterday, my sister didn’t show up to cause trouble, which struck me as odd. However, I knew that she would always try to take anything she deemed important. So, I wasn’t too worried.
At noon, Bradley came to the company again. He always liked to take me out for lunch. To outsiders, he indeed appeared to be the perfect boyfriend. But only I knew that this is only because he’s truly a control freak, refusing to let me out of his sight for a second.
Today, not only did he take me out for lunch, but he also invited me on a date for the afternoon. Looking at his smile that hid a hint of menace, I sighed in resignation and pulled out my phone to ask for leave. I didn’t expect, however, that halfway through the date, I would receive a message from my sister.
She furiously questioned me:
“Didn’t you go to work today? Where are you?”
“Mom and Dad worked hard to raise you, and you’re skipping work?”
Hearing these almost identical words from yesterday, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. I retorted sarcastically:
“Alyssa, do I need to report every move I make to you? You’re being way too nosy.”
After that, she stopped replying. I shrugged it off and focused on managing Bradley’s mood. It wasn’t until I made an excuse to go to the toilet that I finally escaped his control, albeit briefly.
However, as I tried to open the door to leave the cubicle, it stubbornly refused to budge. It was clearly blocked from the outside. I felt a surge of panic. In this unfamiliar place, who would do something so petty?
Just then, a mocking laugh came from outside the door. A familiar voice followed:
“Lena, you’re still too naive if you think you can outwit me!”
It was my sister. No wonder she went silent; she had been secretly trailing me and Bradley on our date, waiting for a chance to snatch this opportunity to be alone with him.
But this time, she had underestimated the situation. After all, Bradley was no ordinary person to deal with. As much as I disliked my sister, I didn’t want to see her walk into danger without reason.
I anxiously shouted:
“Alyssa, don’t do anything rash, let me out!”
But she mistook my plea as fear of losing Bradley and laughed even more arrogantly. Ignoring my desperate pleas, she left the restroom.
I cursed under my breath and called for help repeatedly, hoping someone outside would hear and open the door for me. Unfortunately, the cubicle was too isolated, and after shouting for a while, no one came.
Resigned, I had to close the toilet seat and climb up. Struggling, I squeezed through the gap above the door. As soon as I touched the ground, I raced to find my sister and Bradley.
Finally, in the crowd, I spotted the towering figure of Bradley and my sister snuggled beside him. I shouted:
“Brad! I’m here!”
