Levi stood up and followed Letitia away. It was far away, but Nicolai still heard their voice.
"Please. Help me pursue Candice. I know Genevieve will help you." Levi said.
"Shut up! If it's Genevieve you're courting, I'll help you, but if it's Candice, it's unclear. That woman is kind, I know, but there's some wall that seems she blocks people she just met. You dream so high," Letitia said angrily.
"I'm kind, Letitia, I can make her happy," Levi continued.
"Shut up, Levi. You're annoying. She's not our friend, only she and Genevieve are close to each other," Letitia answered.
Nicolai just shook his head while listening to his office mate's conversation. They have been talking for a while but they seem to be shouting even though they are close to each other. They talked about the woman he met last night at the bar, and it was Candice, they talked for a long time because there were only two of them left on the seat since everyone is dancing. She seems nice but she is elusive to people and she didn’t talk very much.
"That's enough, Levi. You can talk about it when you get home," he said.
Levi did nothing but stop because Letitia did not agree. Why does he have to court another woman when Letitia is here, still nearby? He recognizes the behavior even better. It's not difficult to get along because it's a work colleague. Levi accompanied him home in the afternoon so he had a chance to talk to him.
“Are you serious about courting, Candice?” Nicolai asked.
“Yeah. I like her,” Levi answered, seriously.
“Are you sure? Letitia is near, why are you keep on looking in the distance and to another woman?” he asked.
“What’s that question for, Nico?” Levi asked, leaning against the driver's seat.
"Nothing. Letitia is beautiful, kind and generous, if only I wasn't a married guy, I would have courted her," I said.
"Letitia is too damned annoying, Nico, I can't take her attitude. I also want to experience being the boyfriend of a billionaire's daughter," Levi said ambitiously.
He just shook his head.
“You should try,” Nico said.
“Whatever, Nicolai. You can’t say it, my type does matter,” Levi said.
“Of course. I’m just suggesting, dude. If you are truly into here. Try to contact her all by yourself not ask for help from your co-workers. Be a man, dude,” he said.
“Okay. Okay. You win,” Levi said, and start driving the car away from the building.
When they arrive at his house. He thank Levi for giving him a safe ride.
“Thank you, Levi, You keep on doing me a favor,” he said.
“You’re welcome, Nicolai,” Levi replied.
After Levi left, Nicolai when notice that their gate was broken. Something is wrong, so he immediately goes inside only to find out that the front door is locked. Then the surrounding is very silent, my heart is already in chaos then I heard a commotion inside the house or men talking.
No way! My house is ransacked! He felt rattle. Where are his wife and his daughter? So I immediately went to the side and I went straight inside using the back door, almost tripping over what I found. My son and wife were lifeless lying on the floor in the kitchen as if they had been shot because I saw that both of their bodies had bullet wounds. My tears fell first. And hugged them one by one, we were so happy that one day I even bought my son a new tablet. But how unfair is the world? When my life is okay I can give them a good life. Then they immediately disappeared from my life. I don't care if my whole body is full of blood as long as I can hug them.
Someone banged outside as if the door was trying to break down whoever was trying to enter, I was about to ask for help when I heard the conversation.
"I heard gunshots in this house earlier, Barangay Captain, I was about to go there just because someone told me that the husband killed his wife and children," said a male voice.
"That's it? What could be the reason? We need to get in immediately and arrest him," answered the barangay captain.
I didn't do anything to my family. I didn't kill them! screamed my mind. I can't be imprisoned without anyone being a witness when that happens because my family is gone. I don't want my parents-in-law to believe them. So I immediately took off my office suit which was full of blood and then put on a new one then I left the house from the back and I passed a long way to go back to the house and take a taxi. I'm not guilty, I just used my mind so they can't accuse me.
I got off the taxi and entered our gate. I neatly hid the clothes that I had worn earlier and threw them into the sea so that no one would see them. I don't know, what kind of attitude do the people here who are our neighbors have. Unable to help, my family was taken to the hospital. I can't be imprisoned for what they sell to me because I will seek justice against whoever did this to my family.
I entered our gate. And slowly walked towards them.
"What happened?" I asked so they immediately looked at me.
"We heard gunshots earlier so we thought maybe you and your wife fought," answered the barangay captain.
"I don't have a gun, captain. And my wife and I won't have a physical fight, I'm at work every day so my son and I are the only two left here," I said.
And opened the door for them. But it was locked so I used my strength to open the door, it was opened so I immediately went inside and the two of them followed. I fell to my knees when I saw my wife and son. I can't accept that they leave the world like this. Tears started to fall from my eyes.
"Who did this?" said the barangay captain.
I didn't approach them because they might frame me up. I can already hear this barangay captain's bad attitude, I just don't say anything because I don't care. I knelt down while crying and heard an ambulance outside with a patrol car. Then the number of curious people increased. My parents-in-law's house is far from here so they won't be able to come right away even if I call them. I don't know how to explain all this to them. The bodies of my wife and son were taken and I approached them and hugged them. They were put in an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
A policeman approached me when I was outside.
"Are you the victim's family?" asked the police.
"Yes," I replied sparingly.
"What happened? Did you fight someone to do this to your family?" he asked.
"Nothing. sir. My routine is just home and work. I don't go out and I don't drink alcohol. So I have no idea who did this to them. As for money, I have nothing to hide money here in my house so it can be said that the person who made it went up to the house," I answered.
A few months after my family's funeral, I felt as if I lost my strength as if my body and soul were buried together in the ground. I can't eat and I can't sleep even more. It hurts too much. It hurts so much. I have sold all the things in the house, but I hid my wife's and my son's cell phones first. I'm still at home now and my parents-in-law are about to leave and go home with them.
"We understand that losing them is painful for you, but the pain we feel is doubled because we lost a child. Be careful here," they said.
My tears started to flow, I really couldn't accept that I still have many plans for the family. But the morning they took me. The door opened and my office mates came in they all hugged me so tightly that I cried so much.
"You shouldn't be staying here, dude. You should be at home first," Levi told me.
"Thank you very much," I replied.
"For you to move on, Nico, you have to sell this house," Letitia said.
So that same day I went to Levi's house to live there, I went to work like I was out of my mind.
"Who told you to come in? Rest first, file a sick leave so you don't have to worry about being replaced here," said Mrs. Lourdes, our head office.
"It's hard there too, ma'am. Because every time I'm alone I remember how painful it is to kill them like that," I answered sadly.
"I understand what you went through, but you should rest. So that you don't get sick," said Mrs. Lourdes.
I just nodded. It's better to rest. Levi and I are in the car now.
"Let's go to a club so you can forget?" he asked me.
"It's possible. But I know the pain won't go away even if I'm too drunk," I answered shaking my head.
"I know, but at least you can forget it at least once," Levi answered.
I nodded and followed him inside. I better sell the house because I have no one to go home to and no one to wait for me when I get home. Everything I've worked for has been ignored because I have nothing to spare. When we were inside, Levi ordered two buckets of beer. This man is going to get me drunk. I want to forget at least a little bit. I started to open a beer and immediately swallowed the contents. I feel the bitterness go through my throat. But I can't beat the bitterness I experienced today. The world is too unfair when someone is too happy and then that happiness is cut short. It's like I don't want to live anymore because the only world that revolves around my life is gone. The light and the star no longer shine. As I drank, my tears flowed. Levi just let me cry so I could release my pain.
I've drunk a few bottles but I still don't seem to get drunk. I can still see every smile of my wife and daughter in my mind. This is not possible, I told Levi to go to the comfort room to pee first but I went straight outside the club and hailed a taxi. I was going home to our house, where we built our love and dreams of a life together outside I was surprised and lost my drunkenness. There is a patrol car outside the gate causing me to be confused. I want to go in right away because there might be a lead on what happened to my family's case.
But before I could enter, I saw the barangay captain and the man who was with him at the time who was talking to the police. I have a suspicion among these two that they plan to pressure me in the case that I killed my family. I admit that I don't know these two personally, and I don't have a record in the barangay for them to warm to me like this. Something is wrong, why are they there if I am the owner of the house? It's like they reported me to the police based on their conversation even though I couldn't hear it from where I was. And I know they can't just go inside because the door is locked but I know they broke the lock because I saw it open. I can't allow myself to be imprisoned by the two of them who have nothing to fight for.
I took a taxi again and drove to Levi's house. He went home because his car was already outside.
"Where have you been?" he asked me when I rang the doorbell.
"Someone just came," I answered and went inside the house.
"Are you sure? You worried me," Levi replied
