Chapter Three: Pack Politics
Maya woke up the next morning feeling both exhilarated and anxious. Her date with Alex had been magical, despite the encounter with the pack of wolves. However, now that she knew about his werewolf identity, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease.
She spent the morning running errands and trying to distract herself, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Alex and his secret. As she was walking out of the grocery store, she heard a familiar voice calling her name.
"Maya, hi!" Lily, her best friend, said, waving at her.
"Oh, hi Lily!" Maya replied, feeling a sense of relief at seeing a friendly face.
"What are you up to?" Lily asked, taking a handful of groceries from Maya.
"Just running some errands. How about you?" Maya asked, feeling grateful for the distraction.
"I'm actually on my way to meet some friends. Do you want to grab a coffee first?" Lily asked, smiling.
"Sure, that sounds great," Maya said, feeling a sudden surge of gratitude towards her friend.
As they sat down at a nearby coffee shop, Maya couldn't help but share her recent experience with Lily.
"What? Alex is a werewolf?" Lily exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock.
"Yes, I couldn't believe it either," Maya said, taking a sip of her latte.
"What are you going to do?" Lily asked, looking concerned.
"I don't know, Lily. Part of me is drawn to him, but the other part of me is scared," Maya admitted, feeling vulnerable.
"I think you should give him a chance. From what I've heard, werewolves can be very loyal and caring," Lily said, trying to offer comfort.
"I know, but what about the pack? Won't they have a problem with us dating?" Maya asked, feeling a sense of foreboding.
"I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see," Lily replied, shrugging her shoulders.
As they were leaving the coffee shop, Maya saw a familiar figure standing across the street. It was Alex, and he looked worried. Maya's heart skipped a beat as she waved at him.
"Hey, Alex!" Maya called out, hoping to catch his attention.
Alex turned around and saw Maya, his face lighting up with relief.
"Maya, thank god I found you! We need to talk," Alex said, walking towards her.
"What's wrong?" Maya asked, feeling a sense of panic.
"It's the pack. They know that we went on a date, and they're not happy about it," Alex said, looking at her seriously.
"What does that mean?" Maya asked, feeling a sense of dread.
"It means that we need to talk to them and explain that we're seeing each other. The pack is very protective of their kind, and they don't allow outsiders into their territory," Alex explained.
"I see. When do we need to meet with them?" Maya asked, feeling anxious.
"Tonight. I'll pick you up at 7," Alex said, placing a hand on her shoulder.
As they said goodbye, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that she needed to be careful, but she also knew that she couldn't resist Alex any longer.
As the day passed, Maya felt a sense of trepidation growing inside of her. She knew that meeting the pack would be dangerous, but she also knew that she had to do it.
At 7 pm sharp, Alex arrived at her doorstep. He was dressed in a suit, and he looked both handsome and serious.
"Are you ready?" Alex asked, holding out his hand.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Maya said, taking his hand.
As they drove to the pack's territory, Maya couldn't stop fidgeting. She had so many questions, and she didn't know how to prepare for what was to come.
As they arrived at the pack's den, Maya could feel her heart racing. The place was dark and foreboding, with several wolves patrolling the area.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked, taking her hand.
"I'm fine. Let's do this," Maya said, trying to sound brave.
As they were ushered inside, they saw a group of wolves sitting in a circle. They looked up as Alex and Maya entered, and Maya could feel their eyes piercing through her.
After a tense silence, the alpha wolf spoke. "Alex, who is this?"
"This is Maya. She knows about us, and we're seeing each other," Alex explained, looking nervous.
The alpha wolf stood up and approached them. He was huge and intimidating, with a mane of black fur.
"Maya, do you understand the implications of dating a werewolf?" the alpha wolf asked, his voice low and menacing.
"I do. I know that your kind is different from humans, and I respect that," Maya said, feeling calmer than she had expected.
"It's not just about respect, Maya. It's about our way of life. We cannot tolerate outsiders who do not understand our rules," the alpha wolf said, his eyes flickering with anger.
"I understand that, sir. But I care about Alex, and I want to be a part of his life," Maya said, standing her ground.
The alpha wolf looked at Alex, who nodded in agreement. With a grunt of approval, the alpha wolf sat back down.
"Very well. Maya, you will be allowed to see Alex, but only if you abide by our rules. You cannot reveal our existence to anyone, and you cannot enter our territory without permission," the alpha wolf said, looking at her seriously.
"I understand. Thank you for giving me a chance," Maya said, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
As they left the den, Maya couldn't help but feel grateful towards Alex. She knew that his loyalty to her could mean the difference between life and death.
"What now?" Maya asked, feeling a sudden sense of uncertainty.
"Now, we begin. We start our relationship on our terms, and we take it one day at a time," Alex said, looking at her intently.
Maya could feel her heart fluttering at his words, and she knew that she had made the right choice. Despite the danger and the unknown, she wanted to be with Alex. And she was willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.
