Mr. Agus stopped his car in front of J.W. MARRIOT hotels. Getting out of the car I ran through the lobby towards the restaurant.
Right at the entrance of the restaurant, I could see the figure of my boss sitting with a cell phone in his hand. Wearing a blue shirt and black tie, his black coat slung over the back of a chair. Looking younger than usual, everyone would think he was in his fifties, when he was already seventy-eight.
The sound of my high heels pounding on the empty restaurant floor, I hesitantly approached my boss's table. It felt like a heavy weight (a million tons) was permanently stuck under the soles of my feet.
Arriving at the table, "Good evening, sir."
I was greeted as gently and politely as possible with a sweet smile. "Good evening, please have a seat." He greeted as he sat down.
Not long after the restaurant waiter approached the table to give a list of menus.
"Please order food that Lea likes, don't hesitate," said my boss.
"Yes sir, thank you."
My eyes widen when I see the menu list that I'm holding now, everything is expensive, I'm confused about what to eat. Then I googled and started ordering the beef/steak roast, and the fruit punch listed on the menu. It's free, hehehe, when else can you eat expensive food.
While waiting for the food to arrive, Mr. Gie finally opened the conversation. "Sorry in advance. I want to ask Lea something? I hope Lea doesn't misunderstand," asked Mr. Gie politely.
"About what, sir?" he asked surprised. My legs were shaking, my hands were clenched into my thighs.
"Leah, do you have a boyfriend? Or maybe planning to get married?" He asked.
Automatically shocked, very surprised. “Mmm… not yet, sir.”
This is a bad feeling! Why did the boss ask that? Maybe Mr. Gie has other feelings for me. Oh no, no way.
"Listen... actually I wanted to talk about this with Lea from a week ago," my boss said calmly.
My heart beats faster, I'm afraid to hear what Mr. Gie will say next. "Excuse me, what is this sir? May I know?" I said with a questioning look.
"What if . . . Lea marries my son?" said my boss with a serious face.
Oh Lord! Thunderstruck. My heart seemed to stop for a moment, my brain was confused, my mind was confused. What is this? How can someone like me be asked to marry his child? I kept my mouth shut trying to think straight.
“What about Lea, does Lea agree to marry my son? I have previously discussed this with my son. And, he had agreed. Yesterday he also came to the office, had time to meet Lea at the office," explained Mr. Gie with a smile, his eyes sparkling with joy.
Wait a moment! yesterday? When? Where? We met at the office?
"Mmm... may I think about it, sir." I said I don't understand.
This is a very complicated question. How can I marry someone I don't know at all, but strangely my boss says 'yesterday he was in the office and had a chance to meet me'. Who's he? I'm very curious.
“Yesterday my son said, 'I often see Lea', he was also interested and agreed to get married. I hope Lea can think about it again. I would be disappointed if Lea refused,” he explained with a wry smile as he took a sip of his drink.
I was confused by what my boss just said. “Sorry in advance, I don't have parents anymore. For my marriage guardian…” I reasoned.
"… this problem. I also understand the problem. For wedding preparations, my secretary and wedding organizer will prepare. Tomorrow if I have time I hope Lea is at the diner together. Meet my son in person," his voice sounded a bit forced.
Oh Lord! What did I dream last night?
"Yes, Sir." My tongue is dry, I can't stand it. I finished my drink, hiding my disapproving expression.
Finally the dinner was over, ending with the words, “Okay, sir”. That's all I can say, so it wouldn't be too disappointing if I just said "no".
I feel bad and ashamed for Mr. Gie who has helped me a lot in my life. Maybe Mr. Gie just feels sorry for me for living alone. He once told me not to be ashamed, because he treated me like his own daughter. However, not this time, I really don't know what to do.
Arriving at the rented house, I couldn't wait to tell Tyas everything, but I didn't, because it didn't seem like the right time to tell him. I cleaned my face of make up with the facial cleanser I usually use, then washed it in the sink. After washing my face, I lay in bed thinking about the conversation. As a result, I couldn't sleep well tonight.
