The bright stars in the dawn sky rolled slowly as the morning turned. The eastern horizon allows the sun to shine brightly, a perfect painting without the Grace of the Almighty. A swarm of white clouds wavy in the blue sky. Who would have thought that in the afternoon the sky suddenly turned cloudy. Thick and dark clouds dripped thousands of buckets of heavy rain.
My panic peaked when I remembered one of the old sayings 'prepare an umbrella before it rains'. you must know the reason. Of course, I didn't bring an umbrella today, I must have come home soaking wet.
The time to go home had passed ten minutes ago, but I still didn't want to go home right away. I stepped onto the balcony terrace in the corner of the office.
Hmm... the smell of rain. I inhaled deeply the smell of the wet earth. Relax, the atmosphere when it rains can always make me feel calm. A gust of cold wind penetrated slowly into the cavities of my lungs. I crossed my arms in front of my chest, enjoying the drizzle of falling water.
Suddenly my vision was caught by a creature standing exactly two meters to the left of the balcony where I was standing. He tilted his head, looking up at the sky, letting the raindrops trickle down his face.
But wait! There was something different about the look in his eyes. From afar I can still see dimly, those narrow eyes slowly turning red, and swollen. Her face was somber as if she was crying. I squinted, peering more carefully through the pouring rain. The longer I look at it the more I know who it is. His face was exactly the same as the guy I'd been seeing a lot lately. That's right, that's him.
Why is she crying? Maybe breaking up with his girlfriend, I thought guessing the amused smile in my heart. The corners of my eyes seemed reluctant to turn away, seeing him who was wiping tears. The question arises in my little heart, does he work in my office? If yes, then we are office mates! It could be.
Just then, our eyeballs collided. He looked at me through the drizzle of the falling rain, rubbed his eyes slowly, maybe his vision was blurry because of the rain. The next second, he seemed to notice my presence. Saying nothing, instead of looking away slyly, walked away. How not to be upset? Really arrogant.
I stepped furiously back into my seat. My eyes wandered, silent, there was no one else in the room but me. Time passed so fast, I stared at the window pane which was getting dark. It's almost night, I'm still stuck here waiting for the rain to stop. Rotating the phone in hand. Empty, no calls let alone incoming messages.
The narrow alleyway is muddy and potholed, so I have to be extra careful when walking. Small stalls on the side of the road look crowded with buyers, understand that when it rains like this, your stomach suddenly becomes hungry.
I swallowed slowly. The smell of grilled satay pierced my nose. Hmm... must be delicious. Suddenly my phone vibrated loudly. I reached into my trouser pocket, took it, and lifted it. Next, a voice rang out clearly from the distance.
"Hello, Leah."
"Hello. Good afternoon sir, can I help you?" I know this voice very well.
"Leah, do you have time? I want to talk over dinner."
I was silent and didn't answer right away. Is there something wrong? I thought to myself.
"Mmm, sure. I have nothing to do tonight."
"Seven o'clock tonight, let my driver pick up. Thank you."
"Very well, sir. Thank you."
The phone disconnected after the last conversation. In my mind I asked, what do you think, boss will talk to me. Will I be fired? What did I do wrong to get fired?
A thousand questions popped up in my little mind, breaking the long-buried feelings.
When I got home, I rummaged through my wardrobe. Confused, what to use? It's the first time having dinner with the boss. Usually, it's just dinner with friends at work. Twenty minutes of confusion alone in front of the closet, clothes scattered, messy on the mattress and floor.
Argh! No time left, I decided to tidy it up later. I immediately took my cell phone, dialed Mr. Gembul's number (Mr. Gie's private driver) who was waiting at the end of the alley of my rented house. Understandably, it is impossible for a car to enter a narrow alley, the width of the alley is only enough for motorcyclists.
I wore a navy knee-length dress with beige high heels. Deliberately look different from the usual days at the office. A shiny black BMW sedan was parked beautifully across the street. Cautiously I descended the muddy alley.
"Mr. Agus, what exactly did Mr. Gie invite me for dinner?" I asked as soon as I got in the car, starting a conversation.
"I don't understand, he just told me to pick it up and deliver it," he replied with a big smile showing a row of dentures.
