“Eric…” Her voice wavered somewhat emotionally as she called my name, before reaching out and pulling me into an unexpected hug.
But I didn’t hug her back. I just stood there, barely moving, reeling in the shock of seeing her and the painful sting of betrayal that seared my heart.
It was clear she was my mother. I didn’t quite expect this to be the first thing she would do on seeing her long-lost son. The son she dumped like garbage and forgot about. She hugged me like I hadn’t been away for ages, like she’d known me forever.
