Morning comes too fast and too slow at the same time.
I barely slept, hyperaware of every sound in the unfamiliar house. Every creak, every rustle, every car passing on the distant road. The protection detail arrived at midnight—four agents who now patrol the perimeter in shifts.
It should make me feel safer. It doesn't.
Alvaro's wrapped around me in bed, his body a furnace. Javier's on my other side, one hand resting on my hip even in sleep. Luciano took first watch, refusing to rest until he was certain the security was adequate.
