Star's POV
The Lycan alpha rested on his elbows as he blinked out residual tears. My legs trembled at his peircing gaze. I didn't think he was aware of how tears still fell slowly down his chin. Slight relief curled within me when he dropped his dark red eyes from me and stared at his bloody hands.
The moment I walked in the Alpha's scent had quickly alerted me of who's room I was put in. Although it was expected, I hadn't expected him to want to use me so soon.
At first I shied away into a corner holding my knees to my chest as I wondered why I have always been so unfortunate with packs and mates. Having a mate was supposed to be a beautiful everlasting experience that sealed a person's heart to their mates but it appeared the goddess found joy in mocking me by giving me mates that were the strongest in their packs.
Who would cherish such a waste as me? My stay here was only going to be tourture and I already wished I was killed alongside my people.
My ears pick up a quiet whimper but I refused to give in to curiousity. Although I really wanted to keep my curiosity at bay but my will broke the moment I heard a choking sound.
I sprung to my feet and with wandering hands desperately found the switch on the wall. The place flooded with brightness and my curious gaze found the alpha struggling on his bed. His hands clung to his throat like he was trying to strangulate himself.
His cut out muscles glistened with sweat and I could tell he was having a nightmare. Perks of being plagued with a nightmare every time you tried to catch some sleep; you could tell exactly when someone was locked in their sleep. I had to wake him up.
I hurried to his side, ignoring his state of undress and leaned over his shivering form. I watched him frightened. I really wanted to help him but I had no idea how. No one had ever helped me during my episodes so I was blank on what to do.
If he killed himself then I would go in for it and I wasn't willing to suffer any more than I had to.
I tried not to think to much on how he could rip me to shreads with his strength if he willed and leaned closer, watching more tears pour as he fought for air. "Stop, stop you are hurting yourself." I murmured more to myself than anyone else and fearfully reached for his hands. They felt unhealthily warm against my hold as I pulled on them with all my might.
A low growl escaped his throat but I couldn't get myself too bothered about it as I pulled harder hoping to snap him back to reality. His sharp eyes snapped open startling me for a moment and I swiftly took a protective step backwards.
His canines protruded and blood coated the tips of his elongated claws as I paused hoping for some reason he would not find me if I stayed unmoving. I watched as his extra sharp teeth returned into his mouth and his eyes fell to his blood stained hands. His claws had left some deep scratchs on his neck but he didn't seem the least affected by it.
I noticed his hand rise off the bed and I moved fearfully, only intending to keep more distance between us but causing a disaster instead as a picture frame behind me fell off the shelf. My heart trumped as the room suddenly fell eerily silent after. I locked gaze with the broken pieces as I thought up an excuse but bit my tongue when his anger-laced voice tortured my mind.
"What have you done?" Deep and guttural as he sounded, his voice was almost a whisper.
Cold sweat rolled down my back as I forced my lips to move. "I... I didn't mean to." I stuttered.
"You broke it." His voice was louder this time with disbelief coating every word.
"I... I swear I didn't..." I gulped my words down as my eyes pricked with tears. A familiar wave of fear consumed me as the Lycan alpha moved almost in a daze to the broken glass beside my foot.
I trembled as he crouched down and reached for the photo. I took a few steps away, my heart beating at an unsteady beat.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!" His deathly hallow eyes pined mine down as his eyes suddenly blazed red.
"I didn't mean to. It was a mistake!" I attempted to yell back but it only returned to my ears as a whimper. A weak pitiful whimper.
The paper in his hand crumbled in his tight hold but the beast didn't seem to notice he was destroying the one thing he wanted to preserve.
"Leave!" He sounded definite, final but I couldn't bring my legs to move as the tremble in my feet was to much for my wounded ankle to bare. A normal werewolf would have healed from it already but I have never wolfed out before. Maybe I can't even wolf out.
I forced my eyes to meet his as I sobbed. My tears seemed to disgust him as he snarled probably communicating with a pack member through the mind link. After a few seconds a familiar guard opens the large door.
He frowns when he notices me crouched in a corner trying to stop myself from crying and appearing even more pathetic.
"Take her out of my sight before I do something I'll regret." The hatred that dropped off the Alpha's every word wasn't a problem to Star as she had yet to know any feeling more familiar than the feeling of being hated and unwanted.
"Yes Alpha." The big man held my hand and quickly walked out with me.
"Take her to the dongeon Archer, I don't want to see her for days."
"Are you sure you wouldn't reconsider Farell?" The big Lycan questioned with worry in his eyes. "She is your mate after all."
"Lock her up till I change my mind." The alpha ordered before slamming the door close.
I kept my head low feeling a painful relief that did nothing to keep my wild thoughts at bay. What if this wolf hurts me? What if I wake up once again in a pool of my own blood feeling used and ripped apart from within.
Long hard fingers tightened around my wrist. Not enough to bring me pain but just enough to pull my attention to him.
The big determined guard turned to face me with what I supposed was to be a caring face. "Relax miss. Your fear is too loud in my ears to be healthy for you. May I ask you the reason for your fear?"
Archer's POV
Star raised her brows at the rediculous question but her sight blurred as her teary vision confirmed to me that she was indeed scared of her mate, my alpha.
I stared ahead, gently tugging her along. Alpha Farrell could be really stubborn sometimes, too stubborn for his own good.
Being his beta came with a lot of baggage. Baggages that only increased after the unfortunate event three years ago. Not once had I seen the Alpha look that happy after the murder of our luna and future alpha.
The kid was a genius and unlike most people, it took nothing but a smile from the little ball of mischief for their alpha to be a jovial happy man. Forgetting duty and pois.
Back then I had queried alpha Farrell as was required from his beta but now I wished and hoped for a bit of joy in his life. I needed him to stay strong, we needed him to stay strong for the pack.
I was sure the moon goddess heard my plea and sent us this prisoner. Only she was powerless and emotionally weak and I wasn't sure how to handle her.
I passed by prison cells at the foot of the mansion. I made sure to glare down anyone who as much as glared at her. I needed her to feel safe.
When security fiñally opened the dongeon, I was shocked when the woman all but hopped into the cage. She shivered against the cold bars. Her hair was disheveled and untamable as she kept her head down.
I wondered if I should leave now but I didn't like the sight of her curled away in fear.
I bounced on my feet before talking. "Your name?"
I noticed her hand stiffen as she squeezed tight the fabric covering her body. "Star." Her voice was choked and sad and I could help but feel guilty.
"Star?" I called as calmly as I could while I leaned against the bar. Her eyes raised to pick my gaze and the pain behind them made feel like assuring me.
"With time Star you will begin to feel comfortable around us. I know we look different and yes, a bit scary but I believe if you would ignore the alpha for a while and focus daily you should."
It irked me that Star didn't say a word as she dropped her head to her knees. My heart squeezed when I heard a sob from her. What was alpha Farrell doing to a second chance. I felt bad for her, she didn't deserve this.
"Alpha Farrell wasn't always like this you know." I started trying to sooth the atmosphere. You were very unexpected so it's hard for him to adjust to having another mate around..."
"I don't want to be his mate." Her broken words were so sure I felt a sudden anger towards her but it was only due to my defensive nature towards the alpha that I had uncontrollably become upset with her.
"You shouldn't say such." I muttered.
She rubbed her sweaty hands on her body. "But it's the truth. I wish to be alone and dead and finally away from all this trauma but no, even the goddess can't grant me a little wish."
"It is a stupid wish." I responded feeling annoyed.
She chose to quit talking for some time and just focused on the cold seeping in through the floor. I knew my presence in the cell only annoyed her and put her on edge so I walked out of the cell. The bars to the cell rattled as I excused myself.
I noticed her ears twitch at the sound. I she was listening as I closed the door to the prison. Slowly she raised her head her eyes reflecting relief. It probably looked weird how I was watching her but she kept her eyes on me.
I withdrew my hands from the bar and took in a calm inhale before softening my gaze on her. "Don't be scared Star, alpha Farrell won't necessarily hurt you. You are his mate and hurting you means hurting himself so you can be rest assured you are safe here."
I wasn't sure she cared about what I was saying but just knowing she was listening was enough so I continued. "I may be back tomorrow or the next." I tried to read her facial expression but she avoided my gaze, dropping her eyes to her lap. "Please try to understand the Alpha." I added before turning around and walking off.
I knew I needed to talk to my brother. He was not only hurting himself but also his mate and the more the hurts her the worse he will get.
Why wasn't he giving her a chance? I thought he would jump at his new mate but he only has been keeping his distance breaking himself from anything that reminded him of her.
I could only hope he listened when I spoke to him in the morning. For now I knew his anger would only cloud his sense of reasoning and he would definitely not listen to a word I have to say.
