Chapter 2 *

Katherine's Pov

There was no way I could escape now. Back in school, I stepped out of the athletic team once I tried and realized running was not my thing. So, running was out of the question. What else could I think of?

I also erudite a few fighting skills and techniques from a small gang in school. And well, I must admit I am pretty cool when it comes to fighting. However, attacking them would be stupid, it was just like signing my own death sentence. They were not just any human being.

They were wolves, deadly looking and dangerous for that matter. I didn't think the way was through like the old saying went. Well, except if a savior appeared out of nowhere.

I looked back as I took a step backward. This was going to be really rough. I could keep going but not very far because of the big tree that fenced behind me.

The wolves closed in, their snarls blending into a frightening chorus of threats. Making every fiber in my resonate with the fear that emitted from each of them.

I battled to calm my trembling limbs, my gaze flicking from one wolf to the other. Meanwhile, I continued to take steps backward, forgetting to remind myself there was a tree.

Eventually, I crushed my back against the rough tree trunk. Yet, my gaze darted from one predator to the next. Their hot breath rushed across my face, carrying the stink of death and primal strength with it. I sneezed, removing the toxic breath I inhaled.

I guessed that was going to be the end of my story. And it hurt so much that no one was going to know how it happened. I heaved, leaning comfortably on the tree. I closed my eyes and prepared myself for the inevitable attack.

Tears rolled down my tears as I mourned my own death which was about a few seconds from now. Meanwhile, my heart never stopped singing the fear I held onto.

The stifling silence was broken by a voice. "Not so fast," it said quietly and ominously. A hint of happiness swept faintly through me, but that wasn't the end. I felt the urge to open my eyes but I couldn't.

Everything around me just became still and very dark than the forest. I wasn't even on my feet anymore as I felt the chips of wood pricking my skin.

My eyes opened, this wasn't where I was. The smell of distinct plants wasn't choking me and there was no sound of those hungry animals. The only similarity was that I was surrounded by an eerie blankness. Did it always have to be this way? Was I going to be in darkness wherever I went?

A clicking sound was heard and then a soft light shone in the room. A tall and slender person emerged from the shadows before me, his pale face twisted into a horrible sneer. He reminded me of one guy I hated with so much passion in my school.

I looked up, thinking he would have eyes that could drive my fears to the far north and never return. Well, His eyes pierced mine, enslaving me with their wicked intent.

I shuddered at his instant impassiveness. From one trouble to the other, was that how my destiny was laid out? I held my gaze, he maintained his, this was like some sort of competition.

Actually, I had no intention of giving up so we were going to stay for quite a long time before his mind scolded him to speak first. Who was he anyway and what did he want with me?

But…it was very bizarre that I couldn't seize my eyes off him. I just couldn't because he looked promising, his eyes cold yet welcoming. He parted his lips slightly and I swallowed hard. He raised a brow at my reaction and as if he wanted to see more, he liked his lips seductively.

Now it was impossible to remain still. I combated with it but I never succeeded, the only way out was to avert my gaze and I did. That actually made me feel less hot and anxious.

"I am the master of these wolves," he growled, his voice wickedly delighted. That was the best male voice you could ever hear and it tamed me. I blinked then my mind started to work again.

"What did he just say?" I thought.

"And you, my dear, are the prize I've been looking for." As if he heard me, he replied in a tone that expressed ownership and possessiveness.

That was a very tremendous proof of overconfidence which may lead him where he wouldn't wish he would be. He was handsome but that gave him no audacity to speak words that made him ugly instantly.

His statement and tone from which he made a thought sink in me. Fear wrapped itself around me, holding me in captivity and sending shivers down my spine. I caught his glimpse.

"What do you want from me?" I screamed, my voice trembling with trepidation and indignation. The stranger removed his hands from his pocket.

He started to walk as though the earth was begging to be walked on. He looked majestically graceful when a genuine smile hit the corners of his lips. He was what anyone could ever wish for and though I didn't have much to do with men, I wasn't an exception.

"I should reckon you were taught that as a stunning lady like yourself, you shouldn't be screeching." He remarked and I flushed with both humiliation and pride.

I knew I was fetching, yeah, a lot of people said that. But having him say it was sending some sort of satisfaction to me.

"I should suppose that shouldn't I?" I shrugged as I couldn't get my voice to answer him. He looked at me and then shook his head slowly. I wonder what he was thinking about that made him constantly smile.

"I wouldn't appreciate that my questions go unanswered, young lady."

I didn't understand anything but this game was getting too far from my reach. Who was this man and how did I even get here in the first place?

"Talk to me and stop thinking." He said, his voice doing some magic on me.

"Who are you and what do you want from me? What am I doing here in the first place?" I asked, my voice steady and fearless. He looked at me awhile, as if he was falling into the ocean of love.

"Why do you want to know who I am when I already told you?" I sighed, he had no idea of the person he was talking to. I didn't like to engage in serious things and call a game.

"I don't like some of your morality but don't worry, we will sort you out at the right time." He smiled and paused. And look who was talking of morality, wasn't that ironic?

What was that supposed to imply though? I looked into his again and it carried enigmas that I didn't acknowledge earlier.

"You know what Mr. I don't understand you and neither do I understand any of these. What's going on? Why are you speaking to me as if I was your daughter or some fucked up slave of yours?"

His gaze was cold, with no light coming along with his smiles like before. I tensed up, fear tying my insides as my breath came in my pants and anger took absolute control of me.

"You don't have to pressure yourself to understand anything. And I can talk to you anyhow because you are mine, yeah, mine. " He paused and heaved heavily.

I only scoffed and looked at him once more. First of all, I didn't know how I got to the forest. Secondly, I couldn't understand a man being a master of wolves in real life, what was he talking about?

Thirdly, how could he stake a claim on me just like that? If he was a master of the wolves then he didn't have to pay them to let me go, right?

"I don't know what you are up to but I think it's not pertinent. It's no good Mr. and you've got to take me to my home, please." I said vulnerably as I wept.

"I am sorry, pretty lady but I can't get you back. You are mine and if you get used to that everything is going to be beautiful just as you are. Well, I know you are obstinate, I would advise that you take it out of your diary."

I squinted my brows, describing him as a mysterious person would be an understatement. My lips parted for some seconds before I managed to put up words.

"Do you know me?" He nodded slowly and smiled, kind of a victorious one.

"I do know you, Katherine."

I swallowed hard, indeed he did. Reality struck me, he was damn serious when he said I wasn't going back.
