It has been more than 14 years ever since I was brought to Alpha Khan's pack. I was treated like a slave right from my arrival but, I never complained... I dare not lest my punishment will be increased. Two individuals will see to that even if the other members of the pack decline to lay their hands on me. These two individuals were Faran and Allan.
Faran and Allan are Alpha Khan's two sons. Under them, life turned bitter and very ugly. There was nothing absolutely good to talk about my life under them. Although Allan was less evil than his elder brother, I still believed that his little fit of kindness to me in mostly in secret was not genuine. Nevertheless, he was better than Faran who would expect me to do all the house chores on an empty stomach, abuses, physical assault and pain.
Sometimes I thought about escaping but, then the repercussions of such an attempt will be swift and severe if I ever get caught. I was living in a constant state of fear.
Each time, I remember my life under my previous pack, my heart melts and my eyes filled with tears. The love and peace I enjoyed during those good days reminds me how bad my misery had become under Khan's pack. However, since I can not help myself, the only option left was to let fate decide.
The words spoken by Alpha Khan that night my pack was invaded have always kept my hope alive... a hope of freedom. Alpha Khan believed my father was not dead and that he will return to fight for me. In that way, Alpha Khan will get another chance to fight my father and gain the Mother-ring of power.
It is believed that whoever controls the Mother-ring of power, controls the world of the Lycans. Father never used the Mother-ring of power because of the evil that comes with it. Instead, he has been guiding it for many years and prevented it from falling into wrong hands until Khan and his pack attacked.
Father will rather die than let the Mother-ring of power fall into the hands of power-drunk Alpha Khan. The world will never remain the same again if Khan gets hold of the Mother-ring of power.
Well, it's been more than 14 years now and father was still nowhere to be found.
It was painful and heartbreaking that I was at the receiving end of this whole mess.
Just like every other day for the past 14 years today, I found myself cleaning the hallway of the building. I was scrubbing the floor for more than 3 hours none stop. Having felt some fatigue under my muscles, I decided to take a few minutes of rest before resuming but, that rest was short-lived. Nevertheless, I found a glass cup containing clean water and began drinking it to quench my thirst.
All of a sudden, I heard someone whispered my name. I paused at once to see who was calling.
"Elena! Elena... hurry up... get up, they are coming!" whispered the voice.
The whisperer was no one else but Sarah. She was abducted from her pack, just like me at a tender age. We have been friends ever since she arrived...that was because the two of us were subjected to almost the same harsh treatment.
"Who is coming?" I asked with a low still voice to avoid being detected by whoever was coming.
"They!" she said, "they coming this way," she continued.
"Who are they?" I asked, slightly confused.
I thought Sarah was referring to Alpha Khan. "Is it Alpha Khan?"
"Nooo! isn't! but his sons!... Faran and Allan... they are coming this way. I just spotted them on their way down here from the garden," explained Sarah with tension and panic in her voice.
"Whaaat!" I exclaimed and dropped the glass cup in my left hand onto the hard floor. It splashed violently sending different parts of it in several directions of the mobbed floor, with brittle sounds.
I was sure that the careless mistake will land me in serious trouble with Faran and his brother when they arrive.
"Why didn't you inform me earlier... why didn't you tell me on time?" I shivered while asking. The fear in me was overwhelming.
"But, I just told!" whispered Sarah with a worried look on her face, as if I did not heed her warning on time.
"Yeah, you just told me... you did! But that was not enough to save me from this mess!" I cried out to her while pointing at the shattered pieces of the glass cup on the already mobbed floor.
"Are you saying it was my fault?" she asked with a low aggressive voice.
It was as if we were arguing.
"I never said that but you should have done better!" I countered.
"How am I supposed to do it better when I informed you on time?"
By mere judgment, Sarah was right, she has committed no offence whatsoever. If anyone was to be blamed for my shortcomings, it was me. I had failed to live up to my task of mobbing the whole floor before Faran and Allan comes for inspection. Perhaps, I was not one hundred per cent of myself because of the hard chores I did the day before. I must have been exhausted. I have no choice but to keep working to keep punishment away from me. But did I, especially now that a broken cup is conspicuously on the floor?
"Why don't you give me a helping hand instead of standing there and claiming your innocence!" I lashed at her.
"Oh, that's true... that was what you should have asked for and not whining the whole time!" she replied and quickly joined me to begin picking the broken pieces of the glass cup on the floor.
My heart was greatly troubled. Even though Sarah was giving me a helping hand, I strongly believed that we were in no chance of cleaning my whole mess before Allan and Faran arrives.
I panicked as we packed them. My hands trembled while my heart beat faster.
The last time, Faran found me in a related mess, he made going to hell look like child's play. And now I'm at it again...only God knows my obscure fate ahead when they arrived. It was going to be a terror on every side.
