In no time, the police arrived outside and picked Samantha up.

When I returned to the hospital room and looked at the kids, a wave of pity washed over me; I felt deeply for them. They were truly innocent and didn’t deserve what was about to happen in their lives, with their mother gone and no father.

“These are the test results,” the doctor said, handing them over to me.

The kids didn’t seem to have noticed what happened outside. Even they didn’t ask about their mom, staying focused on playing with Evelyn.
