Evelyn's POV 

I could feel the tension in the room as Dad debated with himself. Finally, he nodded reluctantly. “Only because I know you’ll do everything to help her.”

Leonard nodded once, standing as Dad kissed my forehead lightly before stepping out. “I’ll call you as soon as the doctor arrives,” Leonard assured him.

Once we were alone, Leonard pulled a chair beside the bed and sat down. His usual composed demeanor had shifted; his brows were drawn together, and his lips pressed into a firm line. My eyes had not fully opened, but he was quick to see they had blinked.
