LUCAS POV
I felt both angry and embarrassed as I walked away from Sophia. She was absolutely wrong for what she had just done. I could die.
I felt my strength leaving me bit by bit as I walked to my room. The stomach aches came in waves and they were so fast that I'd double over.
I shut the door and leaned on it. The pain was so extreme, they were like contractors or spasms. The pain completely immobilized me. I'd lose control of my muscles, and they'd start shaking. I could neither think, let alone move. I leaned on the door till it passed then slowly walked to the bed.
Sophia had done this to me. I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling. There was a dull ache in my chest. It hurt that she'd forget something so important. Does she really not care about me anymore? Is three years enough time to forget what we shared? I sighed heavily. Not that it matters anyways. Whatever we shared was in the past and I'll let it stay there.
When I felt a little strong, I stood up to change. I needed to go get something to eat and probably drugs for the pain.
A knock at the door interrupted me. The kids were asleep and the workers had gone. It could only be Sophia. I ignored it and went ahead to shower and get dressed. I didn't want to deal with her as long as I was in pain.
I thought she'd leave after a while but she kept knocking. What could she possibly want?
""I know you're in there and you can hear me. I made potato and meat sauce. I'm just gonna leave it by the door…"
"Take it away. I'd rather die." I said not letting her finish
"Suit yourself then." She said.
I heard her feet scrap the floor.
Wait! What? She was leaving? It's her fault I'm in this condition.
I heard the sound of a plate hitting the ground and I sighed in relief. I waited till I could no longer hear her receding footsteps before opening the door.
I looked around to make sure she wasn't there before picking up the plate. I'm not going to lose face in my house.
I felt a warm sensation spread across my heart immediately I opened the food making all the pent up anger dissipate.
There wasn't just food in the plate, she even went as far as getting drugs for the pain. My heartfelt warmer than I had felt in ages. She hadn't forgotten. She couldn't. She still cared about me.
I couldn't help the flush of excitement flowing through my body. It made me shake. I felt like a boy in love for the first time. I opened the drugs and began taking them. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. I put the drugs in my mouth and swallowed them down my throat.
I smiled as I ate. Moments of the times we spent together flashed across my mind. The smile grew wide as I finished eating the food. I laid in my bed with the drugs and plate close by.
I was finally going to get some sleep. I was able to relax. And it felt good. My eyes were slowly closing when a thought came.
What if this was a trap?
What if this was a game she was playing?
I sat up abruptly, beads of sweat were starting to form on my forehead.
What if she wanted to take me apart piece by piece?
The plan was to get me to love her again. Trust her then one day I'd wake up and she'd be gone. Just like three years ago but this time, with the kids
I reached for my plate and threw it on the floor. It was just one more reminder that Sophia had affected me again. The plate shattered on impact.
I threw my head back and laughed at myself for how foolish I was minutes ago. If there was a better word than foolish to use, I'd use it. What was I even thinking? I was hurt and angry. I felt sick to my stomach thinking about it.
I had built up a wall against women, blocked them out. Never let them get close yet the very woman responsible for that wall. The woman who had caused me so much pain had managed to crumble a part of that wall in less than a week.
"Idiot!" I said hitting myself in the face for being an idiot.
And then it hit me. Why not take this as a sign to move on? Wasn't this the reason I built the wall in the first place? Was I letting Sophia win?
No! I'm not letting that happen again. She won three years ago when she broke my heart. It won't be so again. I've got to take control of my emotions. She would not hurt me again. Not her, not any other woman.
That's what had kept me sane the three years after Sophia left. Not anger, not depression, but a sort of numbness that left me in control. She hurt me in the worst way but it didn't stop me from keeping my feelings in check. She broke me, made me weak but she didn't break me forever. I found strength I never thought I had, stopped caring about what people thought of me and focused on myself.
I laid back down on the bed. My heart was still racing from everything I was feeling. Another night of no sleep. I was getting really tired of this. I hated being at the mercy of my emotions. I hated feeling so weak. But it was better than being destroyed by the other.
I lay there in silence for a little while waiting for sleep to come but there was the fear of dreaming about her again.
I got up and went into the bathroom, I needed a cold shower. My body felt tense from everything that happened. I went into the bathroom and turned on the water to the coldest possible setting.
That's all it took. I got under the water and slowly felt it ease the tension out of my muscles. I let myself relax and stopped thinking about Sophia. It was a cold shower but it worked.
I looked in the mirror and wiped away the sweat forming on my forehead. It was just a shower. I didn't need to be thinking about anything else at that moment.
I walked out of the bathroom, dried myself off, and got back into bed. I was exhausted. And I was ready to sleep.
DANIEL DAWSON'S POV
I could see their lips moving but I couldn't hear them. This has been my reality since Sophia left Mexico. I had been so distracted and detached from everything.
I wasn't comfortable with the fact that she's in the same place with her ex-husband, I mean husband-they're still married in the sight of the law.
This is not because I thought he was dangerous. Nope! The truth is I think she is still in love with him even if she says otherwise. One time I had asked her what she'd do if Lucas apologized to her. She hesitated before answering. Her hesitation said a lot.
As if that wasn't enough, Thomas called and told me she'd be moving back with Lucas. I slammed my hands on the table in anger, drawing everyone's attention to me.
Shit! I forgot I was in a meeting.
"I umm, I'm sorry but let's reschedule. I don't feel too well."
"Yes sir." They chorused and began leaving one after the other.
When the room was empty, I walked over to my desk and pulled out a photo from my drawer. It was a picture of Sophia and I by the sea side with an ocean in the background. We looked happy. She was smiling and looked really happy. I'd really like to think she's happy now but I don't know if I'm being naive or not.
I know she said she'd never go back to him and she was just doing this to get back her kids but no man can stand his love interest being in the same house with her ex-husband. A man she had spent years with and even had kids.
Yes, I'm in love with her but she doesn't know it yet. I was attracted to her the first time I saw her at the airport. I was waiting for the right time. I didn't expect something like this would happen. Well I did, it was all she talked about but I didn't know it'll be this soon.
I groaned in frustration. I wanted to go with her. I really wanted to but I couldn't just up and leave my businesses behind. I'd never forgive myself if I lost them. I've worked really hard for them.
I must confess, I'm scared. I don't want to lose her.
I sighed in frustration. Damn, what am I to do?
