Prom finally arrived. It signaled the school year’s end before finals and the seniors’ last hurrah. This also meant Andrew would leave for college in a few months. That thought made my heart ache.

You’re never faced with reality until it kicks you in the teeth. Dad had sage advice for me as I got ready for prom.

“Bella, life will knock you down and kick the shit out of you. It’s what you do that makes the difference.”
