Rebecca hated Valentine’s Day.
Not because she didn’t believe in love. She did. She believed in it once so deeply that she had built her entire world around it. But love had not chosen her. It had chosen someone else.
The office emptied earlier than usual that evening. By six o’clock, most desks were abandoned, chairs tucked in, computer screens dark. Even the receptionist had left a bouquet of red roses on her desk before hurrying out with an excited smile.
Roman had been the first to leave.
