“Rebecca!” Venessa called softly, her voice pulling Rebecca out of her thoughts.
Rebecca blinked and turned around. Venessa stood by the door with an almost innocent look on her face, hands folded neatly in front of her. “Can I sit?” she asked politely, glancing toward the couch in Rebecca’s room.
Rebecca nodded once, her expression stern. Her usual warmth was gone, replaced with something distant and guarded. Venessa noticed it immediately and knew this conversation would not be as easy as she hoped.
