Simon read Serena’s last message again.
He checked the time, then his phone, then the road ahead. He told himself he was only driving over to make sure she was okay. Nothing more. If she didn’t want to see him, he wouldn’t push. He just needed to know she was safe.
The streets were quieter than usual as he pulled up outside her building. He didn’t get out immediately. He sat there for a moment, engine running, fingers resting on the steering wheel, debating whether this was crossing a line.
