Chapter 6 Werewolf Mate

Chapter 6 Werewolf Mate

"I'm really sorry, sir."

"So, what do you say?"

She agreed. "Sure, we can do that."

"I'll call you when work's done." Then he walked out coolly, his voice fading away.

"But you don't have my number?"

"Through the office phone directory. You're as innocent as I expected," he chuckled and disappeared again.

As the day wore on, Ruby couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Every now and then, she'd catch glimpses of that same symbol in unexpected places—a logo on a passing courier's uniform, etched subtly onto a visitor's badge. It was like the symbol was following her, teasing her with its cryptic presence.

When everyone had left the office, Ruby decided to investigate. She grabbed the papers Macy had given her and spread them out on her desk. She traced the symbol, comparing it to every other instance she'd seen it that day. There had to be a connection, a reason behind its appearance everywhere.

Just then, a draft brushed across her neck, making her shiver. She turned around, expecting to see an open window, but they were all closed. A strange sense of unease settled in the room, and she felt a chill down her spine.

"I hope I'm not going crazy," she whispered, scanning the room, a weird feeling in her stomach.

That's when she heard it—a faint rustling noise coming from one of the filing cabinets. Her heart pounding, Ruby cautiously approached, her steps muffled by the carpeted floor. As she reached out to open the drawer, the rustling ceased.

With trembling hands, she pulled the drawer open, expecting to find a rodent or something that had caused the noise. But there, hidden among the files, was a sealed envelope with the same mysterious symbol emblazoned on it.

Her breath hitched. What was this? Why was it hidden here? And most importantly, what did it have to do with her?

As she reached for the envelope, a sudden thought stopped her. What if it was meant for someone else? What if she wasn't supposed to find it?

But the urge to uncover the truth was stronger. She broke the seal, heart pounding in her chest. Inside was a single piece of paper with a cryptic message scrawled in elegant handwriting:

"Embrace the truth, for it will set you free."

Confusion swirled in her mind. What truth? And why did it feel like this message was meant specifically for her?

She tucked the note into her bag, her mind swirling with unanswered questions. It was a puzzle, and she was determined to piece it together, no matter how unsettling it seemed.

As Ruby walked to her desk, her thoughts raced like a whirlwind. That cryptic note had set off an avalanche of questions in her mind. What was the truth it spoke of? And why did it feel like the words were directed solely at her?

She looked around, thinking someone might be watching her. She felt a little scared but tried not to worry. The office was busy, and no one knew about the strange note in her bag. She was alone in a quiet spot, so no one could tell what she was thinking.

The day moved sluggishly. Every ring of the phone, every click of the keyboard, every rustle of paper seemed amplified in her ears. She couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching, that something was amiss. The note's words lingered, haunting her thoughts.

Lunchtime arrived, and Ruby found herself gazing at the note once more. Unfolding it, she scrutinized the handwriting, the lines, the curves of the letters. There was a peculiar familiarity, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

Wanting answers, Ruby chose to go out for lunch. She thought a walk might help her think. She walked down the busy streets of the city, where all the noise and activity kept her mind busy. But those words in the note stayed stuck in her head, not going away.

When Ruby got back to her desk, something felt strange. The office seemed different, like it was hiding something. She looked around, but everything looked normal.

As she sat down, an email popped up on her computer. It was from someone she didn’t know, with a secret message and a file attached. Her heart raced; it felt too much like a coincidence, too spooky.

Ruby couldn't resist and opened the attached file. Strange symbols and secret messages filled her screen, but it made no sense to her. Yet, it seemed connected to the note.

All of a sudden, the office felt strangely silent. She felt uneasy, like someone might be watching her. The idea made her shiver.

Her mind whirled with possibilities. Was this a prank, a conspiracy, or something more sinister? And why her? The note, the encrypted message, it all felt tailored to her, and the mystery deepened.

Ruby decided she wouldn't let fear stop her. She was determined to solve this puzzle, no matter how hard it seemed. She promised herself to dig into the coded message to find clues and answers.

As the day ended, Ruby felt uneasy. Even as she packed up to leave, she couldn't shake the feeling. Glancing behind her, she wondered if someone was following her.

"Ruby?" he called. She turned and saw Archer in his fancy car parked outside. "You're right on time, hop in."

Ruby smiled faintly. She really didn’t have time for dinner dates, but how in the world would she tell her boss, her superior no. She decided to go for his proposed dinner.

As Ruby sat in the car, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this dinner was more than just a simple outing. She felt a mix of nerves and curiosity about Archer. He seemed like a big part of the mystery surrounding her life. She snuggled into her seat, glancing at him shyly, wondering why she felt that way.

The drive was quiet, and Ruby felt the tension in the air. She observed the cityscape through the window, lights flickering as they drove past. Archer, sitting beside her, seemed lost in his thoughts.

The car arrived at a fancy restaurant, its name, "The Starlit Haven," shining in bright lights at the entrance. Inside, the place was stunning, with shining chandeliers that sparkled like stars and an atmosphere that felt really fancy. The tables were set beautifully with white tablecloths and shimmering glasses. Ruby felt surprised; she never visited such a posh place before. The grandness of it all fascinated her, even though she felt a bit out of place in such luxury.

As they walked in, the host greeted Archer warmly, a clear indication of his familiarity with the place. They were escorted to a private section, adding to Ruby’s feeling of being out of place. The menu was full of fancy names she could barely pronounce.

Archer ordered for both of them, and Ruby hoped she wouldn’t end up eating something she couldn’t even identify. The silence was awkward, the occasional clinking of cutlery against plates the only sound in the air.

“So, Ruby,” Archer finally spoke, breaking the silence. “What brings you to our company?”

Ruby hesitated, unsure of how much she should reveal. “Just a job, I guess. A good opportunity.” She tried to smile at him, hoping she gave a solid answer.

She suddenly thought, "Maybe this is a surprise test, part of the company rules." So, she sat up straight, hoping she'd do well in this, too.
