HER EYES

HER EYES

THIRD PERSON'S POV

Annabelle's last words were said with more than a little bitterness and hurt, and she wasted no time in bolting out of the room without a backward glance not noticing or caring that she had left her backpack behind near her chair.

She ignored the stares of the administrator and students as she made her way quickly out of the office area and into the halls. She ditched her first class to head for the library. She needed a little time to think and sort through her unusually high running emotions. She didn't question how she knew where the library was as it was directly concerning the situation she had just gotten herself out of.

Ansel King stared after that strange Anabelle Scott girl, whose sudden outburst had both surprised and impressed him. It wasn't often that anyone, even him stood up to Lilith, let alone actually yelled at her.

And yet it wasn't just that alone that had caught his eye.

At first glance, the girl seemed ordinary enough, but if one were lingering on the girl's hair or eyes- especially her eyes-one would see something... unusual. It wasn't something he could have described in words, but there was something about the colouring of her eyes and hair that seemed somehow unique. Both were hues that he had never seen before.

Her hair seemed very close in colour to Lilith, though that in itself was old enough considering how dark red Lilith's hair was. The Scott's girl had been darker, however, somewhere between crimson and black, but it wasn't either. It was shining and sleek, though that wasn't easy to tell as she had kept up in a large clip that hid most of it from the back.

Her eyes reminded him of looking into a kaleidoscope, with the flecks of gold brown, green, light blue and aqua sprinkled through them like stardust with the background of grey.

Something in them pulled at him, urged him towards her a little.

However, he had not noticed either her hair or her eyes until after she had begun to defy Lilith. He had given her a little more than half a glance before treating her with the same disdain that he treated most of her kind with, he never had a good experience with her kind, they all are fake, sinister and evil. He regretted not having looked more closely. She was obviously a very... passionate and volatile sort of person, one with whom others should think twice about trifling with.

"I cannot imagine where she got that idea that I was trying to set the two of you up," Lilith said with a slight air of nervousness pulling Ansel out of his thoughts. "The idea is completely ridiculous; as though I would never meddle in another person's affairs. I do not know what put the idea into her head."

"I believe she told you that you did, Lilith," Ansel said coolly, still looking at the door the Scott girl had gone out of.

"You have never been very good at the art of deceit, nor at that of matchmaking. I'd give both up if I were you. Good day, Lilith."

He took several graceful steps around a rather unhappy looking Lilith and went to pick up Anabelle Scott's backpack before walking out into the outer office, and from there he followed the girl's scent down the hall.

He wanted to know the feeling or these vibes that were coming off her, what was this feeling in his chest when he saw that girl, he was rather intrigued by her and after all, he did have to return her to her, didn't he? What was the harm in having a little chat with her as well?

Her behaviour was not only indifferent with Lilith but with him also. This is the first time a normal human girl didn't try to reach out to him and didn't flirt with him.

What was so different about this Scott girl that caught his eye?

ANABELLE'S POV

These feelings aren't sane, I thought, sitting down in a nearby chair. I had never felt so out of control or emotional in my entire life. I had always had a temper, but I had always almost managed to keep it to myself, it was as though all of my emotions had been heightened since we moved here. And I felt almost instinctively that it had something to do with being in this town. The nightmares had become more frequent as well, more frightening and intense. I can't sleep properly at night. My brother's not here anymore to console me. I was feeling exhausted because of all these overwhelming emotions. There was something about this town, perhaps something-or someone- in it that was making this happen.

It seemed insane, completely irrational, or perhaps even a little paranoid. But it was how I felt. I almost knew it, as though somewhere deep down inside myself I knew what was going on with me.

The thought of this Ansel guy was also bothering me somehow and I don't even know why. I was sure that it wasn't only because of how he looked at me.

My parents treat me like that and it never bothered me that much. My ex-boyfriend also used to look at me like that when we broke up, but even then it didn't bother me.

But why now?

To feel such an innate daughterly connection to a woman I had just met was ridiculous, even absurd. But then again, I had always felt as though the Scott's weren't my real family. It could be their overall neglect even from my brother to whom I was closer than anyone else, that made me feel that way.

Was I really that desperate for attention or love?

My ex-boyfriend was with me so that he could get closer to my sister. As soon as he caught her attention he broke up with me at that very moment. And I didn't care because I knew there was something odd about him, but it did made me realize that no one in this world is faithful, you can never trust anyone. The Scott family only talk to me when they need something or they need to act like a happy family in front of everyone. My brother was the only one who would listen to me and protect me, but now he isn't here anymore and moreover, for some reason, he is also ignoring me.

I sighed and shrunk deeper into my seat. I wish someone was here to support me.
