Chapter 1:
Morning Arrival
I woke up before my alarm, heart already hammering like I’d run a mile. Today was the day Lewis was coming. My cousin. The one I wasn’t supposed to think about the way I did. I stared at the ceiling, thighs pressed together, remembering the last time I saw him two years ago at Grandma’s funeral. He’d worn a black shirt that stretched tight across those broad shoulders when he hugged me. I’d felt every hard inch of his chest against me and went home that night touching myself until I cried his name into my pillow.
“Anna! Get up, girl. He’ll be here any minute!”...
