Stephanie POV
Can I really trust this strange man? I would have trusted him because he was my mate but then my last mate hurt me badly. This made me know that mates can't be trusted. Moreover I didn't know who he was and at worst he was a Lycan.
I tried to stand up and start to leave. Although I didn't know where I was heading to, one thing I knew was that I really wanted to stay away from this strange man. He's not even someone of my kind.
What was the moon goddess thinking to have mated me to a dragon? There must be a link to all these. The moon goddess must be having an entertainment with my poor life because how could I be mated to a Lycan?
I looked back and saw that he was following me.
"Come on, don't be stubborn. Even if you don't want to listen to me, you should at least walk with me because this wood is dangerous," he said following me.
He was actually right but then I wasn't going to be weak. When I left my pack I knew what would become of me. I knew I was going to turn into a lone wolf and I was ready for it.
My heart can't handle another mate after I'm pregnant for someone who hates me.
"Stop following me, I can take care of myself," I snapped.
I have been taking care of myself for years and I don't think that should be a big deal now. I know it's not easy to raise a pup but I was going to raise mine no matter what with nobody's help. I was going to work hard to be a good mother.
Just then something rustled in the woods and I stiffened. I looked back at Davies and he was also looking at me.
There was another rustle and he swiftly moved closer to me. It would have been a lie if I had said I didn't feel safe with him closer. I was still thinking of what might be in the bushes, when Davies moved like a flash and what I saw next was him pinning something to the ground.
"Who the hell are you!" He said in a thick voice.
His question made me know that what he pinned to the ground was a person.
" Sir, it's me Kilan," the person who was choking said, struggling.
“Sir?” I was surprised that the Lycan was addressed that way. I was wondering if he was a boss to the one held down.
Yes, Lycans are more powerful than werewolves. They are extremely big and could perform magic. Although I've heard that Lycans are around us, I didn't know that they were close.
I don't know the ways of a Lycans so well but I know that the highest rank of a Lycan is their lord, so him calling Davies sir, must mean that he was a bit higher than the one he pinned down.
The one who was pinned down stood up and wow, he was a large one. I wondered how he was able to hide and not be seen by us.
"Why are you here?" Davies said to the man standing before him.
"Sir, I came looking for you," Kilan replied, trembling.
I wonder why he was so afraid. He did no wrong and Davies was the one who was being ungrateful.
"Haven't I told you not to act as if I'm a child?" He growled.
I noticed he was angry and I felt like scolding him. He shouldn't treat his subordinate like that but since I didn't want anything to do with the guy, I kept on going.
I thought seeing one that he knew would let him leave me alone but he didn't.
"Wait, at least stay with us for the night. Then you can continue with your journey later," he said.
His offer was tempting because I was tired and hungry but then I didn't want to get entangled with Lycans. They were said to be wicked and brutal creatures.
There was a legend about their King, he is said to be a hybrid and a very mysterious one. He was said to be a dragon. Many stories about him eating pups to survive and also how he gained his wealth by killing many people around him. The most frightening part was the fact that he killed his own father with his bare hands.
Many had said he did it so he could claim the throne. How brutal of a man to kill his own family for power? I don't want to get entangled with any Lycan. If their lord was a dragon, they too would definitely be one. I was afraid of them.
Then something popped in my mind.
"Was he following me because he wanted the pup in my stomach?"
That question scared me so much that I shivered. I looked at both of them and got scared. Before he was the only one and I could easily escape him but now he already has an accomplice.
There was no way I could fight the two. Looking at their physique, they don't need to change into their Lycan before they overpower me.
I'm not a warrior, I'm just a teacher, so fighting wasn't my thing.
I know it was silly of me to think they wanted to eat the pup in my stomach but I couldn't help it. The history of their lord was scary.
"I don't know why you are hesitating. Those hunters are everywhere in this wood and if they catch you, you will regret not listening to me," Davies said impatiently.
Was that how desperate he was for my pup? I stopped and looked back at him only to discover that he was so close. I quickly moved back but I missed my step and fell backwards but he grabbed me by the waist.
My heart almost jumped out looking into his blue eyes. The man was a really handsome one but something told me he was very dangerous and not as easy as I thought.
"What are you scared of?"
He must have sensed my fear for him to ask me such a question.
I didn't want him to know I was afraid so that he won't take advantage of me. I stood upright and he released me.
"I'm not scared of anything. I just don't want to be among lycans," I said bluntly.
Davies didn't say anything. We all walked in silence. I didn't even know where I was going but I knew that there must definitely be an end to this forest. I was going to seek refuge in the next pack I entered.
Just then something good happened. I saw smoke, which means someone was close by. I walked quickly to see if the person wasn't a seeker. I could smell Seekers when I saw one. The only people I couldn't smell were the Dragons. They use magic to mask their smells.
When I got to the place, I realized that it was a camp. Some travelers must have camped there. I walked slowly into the camp and then a male came out. It was as if he just finished cooking. The aroma of his food filled the whole place and my stomach reminded me that it was empty and I needed to fill it.
Somehow, I felt uneasy going into the hut. Something just wasn't right.
