Freya's p.o.v
"Six weeks pregnant?" Mrs. Martha read out loud as my grandma presented my pregnancy report to her. "And why are you telling me this? or how is this any of my business?"
Martha flinged the paper back to my grandma. My grandma watched as the paper settled on the ground. "I mean it's OK if she wouldn't be working here anymore. This is enough excuse already."
Mrs. Martha turned back to leave for the stairs.
My grandma picked the result from the floor. "It matters because it's Ethan's."
Shocked by the statement, Mrs. Martha almost toppled on the stairs. She turned, stepping down to meet us.
I hid anxiously behind my grandma.
"Ethan's?" she asked. "Did you just say the child is Ethan's?"
"Yes, Ma'am."
"And how am I supposed to believe that?"
Even with Martha's embarrassing smirk, my grandma remained resolute in front of her. "Because it's Ethan's, Ma'am."
"Oh, really?" Martha drifted away from my grandma and her gaze fell on me. I trembled behind my grandma with a sense of fear. "Ethan is truly the one responsible for your pregnancy, Freya?"
Too scared to speak, I only nodded. My gaze on the ground.
"Agnes?" Mrs. Martha called.
Agnes appeared forth in no time. "Yes, ma'am. You sent for me."
"Yes, Agnes. Call me everyone of the workers in this mansion. I want everyone of them present here now."
"But ma'am. Not everyone is present today..."Agnes tried to explain.
"Then let those who are be present," Martha cut her off.
Every maid and worker in the mansion rush down to the living room in no time— including Agnes. Martha began to speak.
"Freya here is pregnant, everyone," she said, and everyone clapped saying their congratulations. "But she believes it's Ethan's."
The silence was loud and the awe was evident on everyone's face.
"Even though I do not want to believe it, I believe it's only fair to seek evidences since Ethan himself isn't around," she said, pacing proudly in front of them in her designer heels.
"You all know I am a very busy person and with little time at home, except of course it's dinner. Same as Edmond. Evans rarely shows up except when he feels like it. And I believe it may have occurred to anyone among you that there might be something going on during my absence. Something between Freya and Ethan that seem suspicious?"
No one said anything or even made any objections.
Martha scoffed. "So, you all mean to say that nothing of such has ever happened in your presence?"
Still, no one replied or said anything.
Martha's gaze met my grandma's and I. "So, how am I suppose to believe Ethan is truly responsible for her pregnancy?"
I could hear tongues waggling and voice murmuring. My heart sank at the embarrassment I seem to be putting my grandma through this moment.
"You are now dismissed," Martha ordered and everyone left to their duty.
We were in the middle of the situation when we heard a car honk. My heart skipped.
Ethan?my eyes wandered as I turned hoping and praying it was him.
But no.
It was Mr. Edmond. He looked all dead beat tired with his tie unraveled. The workers helped him carry his suitcase in and since the door entrance is made of a fused silica glassware, we could see him trudge through the porch steps to meet us at the ground floor where we are.
"Freya?" he called out as soon as he saw me.
"Welcome back, honey," Martha received her husband with a peck.
The Slade's are people of high status. They are literally as wealthy as anyone I could ever imagine — owning and running jewelry stores around the country, but all of that never moved me at all. I felt lost for a second in Mr. Edmond's eyes— they remind me so much of Ethan. He literally has his eyes and height. I thought Ethan had called me when he called out my name.
Mr. Edmond looked at me and then my grandma.
"That's Freya's grandma," Martha explained to her husband, pointing to my grandma with her chin.
"Oh, really?"
"They had brought news about Ethan. Freya is pregnant and Ethan seem to be responsible according to them."
"What?" Mr. Edmond flared up. "How?"
I felt like I could convince Mr. Edmond as I gather the courage to step forward. "It's true Mr. Edmond. Ethan is the responsible for my pregnancy..."
"What the hell?!" he cut me off and bellowed at me. "What the hell do you mean my own son Ethan is responsible or what makes you think he'd want to get involved with a low-life like you?"
I gasped, trying not to spill my tears.
"You think the Slade's would ever want to have anything to do with people like you? People who have no value? Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror before coming to even spew such nonsense?"
My eyes clenched in response to the insult as Mr. Edmond headed for the stairs, holding it in and trying my best to stay sane as the words hit me like hard bricks. I know my grandma already felt worse.
Disregarding that, I slowly brought out the letter I had written to send to Ethan. I have no idea where exactly he lives or stays in the States but I believe I could reach him through the right medium. And maybe I could get a response from him at least after he finds out we'd be parents soon. I held on the letter then kissed it.
"Mrs. Martha," I swallowed, hoping she would hear me out atleast and take the letter from me as I handed it to her. "I really don't want anything and neither do I expect anything from you. But could you please do me the only one favor of sending him this letter? I'm sure he'd understand. Please."
I felt relieved and glad as Mrs. Martha took the letter from my hand. "Fine, I'd see what I can do."
"Thank you."
My grandma and I left the Slade's mansion hoping for a response soon from Ethan. I felt happy knowing I'd be hearing from him soon at least.
