Katherine followed closely behind Lucifer, her fingers woven tightly in his. The corridor was quiet, only for the occasional creak of the old hardwood floors beneath their feet.

Her bare feet padded softly as they approached the final door at the end of the hall.

She was nervous, but more curious than anything. What surprise? she wondered. Her mind ran through possibilities— maybe a private dinner, maybe a gift. But nothing seemed to fit. Not with the glint in his eyes and the faint smile tugging at the edge of his lips.

He stopped in front of the door, turning toward her. “You ready?”
