Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The incident in the bathroom remained unknown to others.

These young ladies valued their reputation above all else, and after this experience, their bonds became even closer.

Good, that's exactly what I wanted.

Removing them all together is much more efficient than one by one.

The time for the promotion exam quickly arrived.

In my past life, during this period, Mia Rivers and her friends publicly humiliated and accused me, claiming I had stolen the exam papers or performed poorly, becoming the laughingstock of the company.

Even my mother, who had been somewhat supportive out of guilt, began to view me as a burden.

In this life, as Mia Rivers and Chloe Morgan were scheming in the break room, I walked into the logistics manager's office.

"Mr. Logistics Manager, it seems like the surveillance camera on the sixth floor of East Building Two is broken; the camera has fallen down."

The logistics manager, an elderly man with graying hair, was known for his kindness and was said to be some kind of representative.

Soon, someone came to fix the surveillance equipment.

In class, I noticed Mia Rivers looking confident and determined.

I smirked.

The show was about to begin.

On the day of the exam, I finished quickly using my memory.

Mia Rivers wasn't far behind; she came out ten minutes after me.

She looked proud and arrogant.

"Finished so soon? Couldn't you answer the questions?"

I nodded, displaying a hint of regret.

"Yeah, there was one multiple-choice question I couldn't answer."

Before long, Chloe Morgan also came out, with Mia Rivers linking arms with her, walking away gracefully.

On the day the results were announced, Chloe Morgan lost her composure.

She pointed angrily at Mia Rivers, looking upset.

"Third in the department? How did you end up third? Did you peek at the exam papers? Didn't we agree to put them in Sia Rivers' bag? Why did you look?"

Mia Rivers, looking uneasy, glanced around and tried to cover Chloe Morgans' mouth, but Chloe Morgan glared at her and slapped her arm away.

"I didn't look at the papers. I earned my place with my own abilities."

"Ha? Mia Rivers, do you think I'm as foolish as Sia Rivers? You think you can fool me with a few words? I know what level you're at. Even if you had three brains, you wouldn't make it into the top three!"

"Wasn't it supposed to be about teaching Sia Rivers a lesson...

"Just wait, I'll expose you!"

"Mia Rivers! Think before you speak. If you slander me again, I won't hold back."

That's human nature.

When everyone is on the same level, they're friends.

Once someone breaks that unspoken rule, dissatisfaction naturally arises.

Mia Rivers' threats had no effect on Chloe Morgan, whose father was a prominent figure and had even donated a building to the group.

Seeing that being tough wasn't working, Mia Rivers immediately softened, pulling Chloe's arm and starting to beg.

"I didn't want it to be like this. I have my reasons. Since Sia Rivers came back, my mom and big brother have been increasingly ignoring and disliking me. Several times, even when it was clearly Sia Rivers's fault, they blamed me."

"I'm really afraid that if this continues, I won't have a place in the Rivers family. If they send me away again, I might never see you again."

"We've grown up together; I can't bear to lose you... Please, Chloe, help me. I'm begging you."

Chloe Morgan was eventually persuaded and agreed to help Mia Rivers keep it a secret.

At the awards ceremony three days later, both my mother and big brother attended.

Mia Rivers looked very elegant, like a graceful little princess.

As I came off the stage with my excellence award, Mia Rivers looked down her nose at me.

"This time's questions were really easy. Even you could make it into the top fifty."

I said nothing and quietly sat next to my big brother.

Mother looked at me and softly said,

"Seeing things in remote areas is nothing compared to the big city. Sisi making it into the top fifty is already very impressive. You should help her more."

"Mom, I want to help her, but I don't have the time. Those who are capable have to work harder. Besides my regular duties, I have so many additional tasks, it's exhausting."

Mia Rivers was truly skilled at being coquettish. After a few words, my mother embraced her with sympathy, saying she was the hardest-working person in the family.

"And the third place in this recruitment exam goes to Mia Rivers."

With thunderous applause, Mia Rivers went on stage.

Just as she began her speech, Chloe Morgan's voice suddenly came over the broadcast.

Mia Rivers' expression changed abruptly, and she looked confusedly towards the control room.
