Henry Jones walked in with Mary Angel, and I spotted the bracelet on her wrist. “So it was for her,” I thought bitterly.
Mary Angel approached me, beaming. “Lola! I’ve got a gift for you! Come see!”
I took the box, feeling numb. “Thanks,” I muttered, my eyes lingering on the kiss mark on her collarbone.
“Open it!” she urged, her excitement palpable.
“Sure,” I replied, forcing a smile, even as my heart sank. “What is it?”
I stared at the box, trying to ignore the kiss mark on Mary Angel's collarbone. She nudged me playfully. “Open it! I thought it would suit you.”
