“I know you think this is an act,” Ember said breathlessly. “But if I could stop it, I would.”

“Then just stop it,” Laura said, spinning to pin Ember with a glare. “You embarrassed me in front of all those people, not to mention Casey.”

Ember didn’t bother to refute her mother’s claims. She understood just how embarrassing it was, which only contributed to the anxiety.
