Ember POV

Ember looked up from her phone as the car came to a stop. She looked around and scowled, turning to her mother.

“Seriously? I told you I wasn’t ready.”

“Avoiding something because you’re afraid of it only makes you fear it more,” Laura said, without even looking up from her phone.

“I’m not afraid,” Ember replied crossly.

Laura scoffed. “Whatever helps you sleep at night,” she muttered and then sighed. “Look, while you’ve been lazing around the apartment for the last eight months, the band has been working on your next album. At least give them the courtesy of listening to what they’ve produced.”

“Lazing around?” Ember hissed....
