Mia pushed through the gate of her grandparents’ place and walked up the garden path toward the house but stopped when she saw a suspiciously familiar statue sitting amongst the daisies.

“Hello there,” she said, squatting before the gnome. “What are you doing here?”

She couldn’t be sure it was Elma’s gnome—they all looked alike, didn’t they?—but she was sure the gnome had not been in her grandparents’ garden before.
