Mallory lay on the bed, looking at the blank ceiling.
The oil lamp hanging next to the window burned silently, flickering when the wind blew. She can hear the distant noises outside, constantly reminding her that she is in a place where people can freely move. A place where they don’t need to be sleeping with half of their body awake.
