Ari's POV
The second silver arrow passed just over my heart. It smashed on a rock behind us, but I felt more frightened in my bones by the noise. Harriet drew me into both hands, and I had to feel that, with all her little fingers, as she attempted to hold me.
"Mommy, we have to run! Please, get up!"
I forced myself onto my feet. The world turned mercilessly, left and right. My vision faded at the edges.
The silver in my shoulder was doing a good job.
My breath came out sharp. "I'm okay... I'm okay... keep moving."
I wasn't okay. But Harriet did not want that fact...
