“This… what now?” Deviana’s voice caught in her throat as her eyes landed on a thin brown envelope lying on her desk.
That morning, she had just arrived at her office. The steam from her hot coffee was still rising in her hand, nearly spilling as her fingers trembled. The envelope sat there casually, with no sender’s name, no postmark. As if someone had slipped inside her office without permission.
Deviana closed the door slowly, her gaze scanning the room. Silence. The windows were covered by curtains. No signs of anyone else. But she knew something was wrong.
