Alexei's POV

I was about to go to my room, but my wolf wouldn't let me.

“Mate,” he whimpered, moving restlessly inside my mind. “Go to mate.” I turned back, his instincts driving my legs. But when I knocked on her door, there was no answer.

“Novel?” I called out her name, but silence met me. Panic settled deep in my chest. Luckily, the door was unlocked. When I entered, the room was empty, and my heart hammered against my ribs, until I heard the water running in the bathroom. When I stepped inside, my breath caught in my throat. It was Novel. She looked lifeless, submerged beneath the water....
