I was enjoying the date until I received a notification on my phone. I regretted checking it immediately.

“You should come home.” My face paled when I saw the message. I knew who it was from, but I tried to ignore it. When I entered the car, my mind raced and fear clawed upward. The air in the car felt thin, but suddenly, I felt his hand on mine. It anchored me. I closed my eyes, trying to compose myself; I didn't want him to think I hadn't enjoyed the date.
