The suite was quiet, the low hum of the air conditioner the only sound left from a long day. The noise of the wedding…relatives laughing, cameras clicking, endless polite conversations…was behind us now. It was just us.
My beautiful young wife sat on the edge of the bed, still in her white dress, fingers tracing the embroidery like it was something fragile. The gold ring on her finger glinted under the lamp, a promise so new it seemed almost too delicate to touch.
