The room feels warmer now, or maybe it’s just me. We’re sitting cross-legged on the floor, a lazy playlist humming in the background, the wine working its way through both our systems. Remi’s cheeks are flushed, her laughter unfiltered. She tosses her head back when she laughs, and I catch myself staring for a second too long.

I clear my throat and glance at her sideways.
