She shouldn’t have left the door ajar. But then again, she wasn’t the type to keep things shut for long—not her mouth, not her intentions, and certainly not her balcony.

Room 1104 pulsed low with music from below, the bassline trembling in the soles of her feet. She’d laughed when he told her to take off her heels at the door. Now she padded barefoot across marble tiles, wrapped in nothing but shadows and the silk robe he hadn’t bothered to tie.

He laid on the bed behind her like a storm on pause. Quiet, charged, waiting.
